Sweet Crystal has been a leader of the Midwest Christian rock scene for decades. 2024 marks the Detroit, Michigan group’s fiftieth anniversary. True to form, the spiritual progressive rockers are marking the occasion with new music.

Regular readers of The Static Dive know Sweet Crystal well. We have followed the band’s journey since the release of their 2020 single “The Other Side of Calvary“. The multiple award-winning band was founded in 1974 by MarQ Speck (vocals and keys), Bill Blatter (guitars and vocals), and Steve Wieser (drums). They later added Martin Kuchar on bass guitar.

“Whatever is Needed, Whatever It Takes” is the brand new single from Sweet Crystal, released worldwide via all major streaming services on December 26, 2023. Built around a heavy and funky minor-key guitar riff, the track is a rock & roll testimony to the dedication of the faithful. Analog synths expand the soundscape as the band builds the tune into a prog-rock anthem.
