We first heard from lilac frog in August upon the release of his single “How The Curtain Closes“. That track introduced The Static Dive readers to emerging independent singer, songwriter and electronic recording artist Harri Hocking. His sound pairs modern production techniques with retro pop and electronic vibes.

Still just nineteen years-old, the Southwest England native has already amassed an impressive catalog of work. Since his 2022 debut, the prolific producer has released over a dozen singles and two EPs. This month he dropped his debut full-length album. 

lilac pond is the brand new album from lilac frog, released worldwide via all major streaming services on December 8, 2023. The twelve-song set compiles the best of the artist’s singles from 2023, along with a handful of LP exclusives. From emotional synthwave ballads like “When Gravity Isn’t Looking” and “Paint the Sky”, to organic indie-pop bops like “Happy Ending”, lilac frog pairs classic 80s pop with modern emo lyrical themes of love, heartbreak, and isolation. 

Although lilac frog usually works with vocal collaborators, he has taken to the mic for the first time on lilac pond. He sings lead on dark pop meditations like “Blood in the Water ” and “See Straight Through Me”, and on inspirational tracks like the dreamy “Butterfly”. He’s not all on his own though. Guest vocalists join the singer on tracks like “Reason to Stay”.

Throughout the record, lilac frog explores the nuances of interpersonal relationships. Whether dealing with bad breakups (“Never Change”, “Friends and Strangers”) or his own inner struggle (“In My Mind”), he matches his emotional soliloquies with infectiously catchy pop hooks and smooth electronic soundscapes.
