Apex Breaks are a genre-smashing independent band from Victoria, British Columbia. With a rotating roster of 8-10 musicians, the Canadian group’s music is so unique they had to create their own genre. ‘Psychedelic Jungle Funk’ is the band’s name for both their sound and what they say is their ‘essence of being‘.
When not wowwing BC crowds with their powerful live shows, Apex Breaks can be found in the studio, crafting their stylistically eclectic and musically sophisticated compositions. They have released five singles since their 2020 debut “Mr Black and White”. This week the group dropped an exciting new live performance video of their 2022 single “Changeling”.
“Changeling (Live at Victoria Ska and Reggae Festival)” is the brand new video from Apex Breaks, released worldwide via YouTube on Sunday, September 24, 2022. The track is a perfect encapsulation of the ‘Psychedelic Jungle Funk’ vibe, with its mystical lyrics, skanking Ska grooves, and jazzy prog-rock psychedelic interludes. Live, the band is excellent. They slide through the song’s many moods with virtuosic ease, and cap things off with a killer acid-rock guitar solo.
