Stereo Glow Drops New ‘Captivation’

Stereo Glow is an emerging independent melodic rock group who made their professional recording debut in 2022 with their cover of the Joni Mitchell classic “River”. That track introduced the duo of Jessica Jellen (vocals, percussion) and Mark Burke (guitars, bass, synths, backing vocals). The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania musicians spin thought-provoking lyrics, catchy beats, and memorable choruses into a unique indie vibe.

Their sound is a refreshing mix of modern indie and dream-pop, with the nostalgia of classic alternative. Stereo Glow’s debut album is set to be released in May and will include 10 original tracks. The group recently offered a taste of things to come with their sophomore single.

“Captivation ” is the brand new single from Stereo Glow, released worldwide via all major streaming services on February 10, 2023. On the first downbeat, a classic alt-pop ensemble of bass, guitar, drums and keys lays down an upbeat indie-pop groove. On the mic, Jessica delivers an exuberant alt-pop anthem as waves of vocal harmonies and guitar tapestries paint the periphery.

8 Questions with Stereo Glow

Where are you from?

Harrisburg, PA area

How long have you been making music?

Mark and I since 2017, but individually much longer in various other projects. It has been quite a ride!

Who are the musicians involved in your project?

Ourselves- Mark Burke and Jessica Jellen. It has been so much fun creating as a duo, we each play multiple instruments so it keeps things very interesting.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

The Beatles are our favorite band of all time. We also played in a 60s girl group band together called the Passionettes which deep dove into some very unique songs from artists of that era. There are just so many others that influence us Pixies, Santigold, Yo La Tengo, REM, Massive Attack, Feist, Bob Dylan. Jessica also credits her very musical family as a strong influence from childhood and still are.

What is your greatest non-musical influence?

This is a really cool question. We both love art, especially modern, and tend to be very visual so that is a definite. Also fiction, film, poetry, history, travel and interesting people we meet. We are usually laughing about something also, so whatever we find funny, too!

What inspired you to create this project?

A desire to contribute our fingerprint in the musical collective at large. We started with one song and, when it all flowed like water, we just kept going. With each song we became increasingly intrigued by what we could create. It felt natural and just worked which was so refreshing.

What are your plans for the future (musically)?
We plan to release a single in March and then rest of our album soon after and then keep writing.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

We are so excited for you to check out our new music. Continue to share your thoughts and stories and thank you for all the support so far, we love hearing from you. Can you imagine a planet without music? We can’t either- so let’s keep it going! Until next time…
