Fear Of Falling Return With New Single

Fear of Falling is a veteran alternative rock quartet making a comeback in 2023. Through the 1990’s, the popular NYC metro band toured incessantly up and down the Eastern seaboard, across the midwest, and twice throughout Europe. During their tenure the released four studuio albums and two EPs before taking an extended hiatus.

Although the members of Fear of Falling remained close throughout their years off, they shied away from the stage and studio. Until now. The group recently signed with Quark Records, in association with InGrooves/Virgin Music/Universal Music and headed back to the studio to record their first single in over 20 years.

“Looking Out For Number One” is the brand new single from Fear of Falling, released worldwide via all major streaming services on March 10, 2023. On the track, the bass, drum and guitar rock & roll ensemble lays down an introspective downtempo groove with a subtle hint of Americana and some mellow psychedelic rock vibes. On the mic, lead vocalist Steve Lanni offers existential advice on losing the self.

7 Questions with Fear Of Falling

Fear of Falling

The Static Dive: Where are you from?

Fear of Falling: Northeastern NJ. The NYC Metro area.

How long have you been making music?

Over 40 years. We’ve known each other since high school.

Who are the musicians involved in your project?

Steve Lanni is the singer, guitarist, and keyboardist. Steve has written the lyrics for most of the songs. Bruce DiBisceglie is the OG bassist who sings and writes a little bit. Kimon Katafigiotis is the main guitarist and multi-instrumentalist. He also writes a lot and produces the band in the studio. Rob Savoy is the little brother on drums and percussion. Rob is the life of the band.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

Our roots are in alternative rock, college indie stuff, the blues, and some progressive music. Pop-rock, art-rock, and the new wave of the 80s have found their way into the soup of our sound. We have to recognize that groups like Talk, Talk, The Killers, Tears for Fears, Peter Gabriel, The Tragically Hip, and Simple Minds are some that have been inspirations as people, musicians, and lyricists.

What is your greatest non-musical influence?

Simple… Family. Not only are we as close as brothers, but our biggest non-musical motivations are each of our families, the women in our lives, and our kids. Even our long-time supporters are all part of our extended family, like cousins.

What inspired you to create this project?

We basically missed the hell out of each other. In the 90’s we got to play around America and Europe, but things got away from us, so FOF evolved into a state of suspended animation. Even though we all saw each other socially over the years, it was our wives that encouraged us to take a crack at playing again. So we did, and now we look forward to the next band session to hang, create, and play great music.

What are your plans for the future (musically)?

We’ve written over a dozen songs that we love, but have never laid down on tape. They’re damn good tunes, and we’re breathing new life into them. This is how the new single, “Looking Out For Number One,” came together. Now we’ve teamed up with Quark Records, which has InGrooves, Virgin Music, and Universal Music behind us and the collective plan is to keep writing, recording, and releasing music.
