ArtistNation (aka Mahoghany) is a cross-disciplinary creator from the DMV. She is making her solo professional recording debut in 2022. However, her new music is just the latest chapter in a storied artistic career as a purveyor of socially conscious words, sounds, images and ideas.

Describing herself as “an enthusiastic dreamer without apology,” Mahoghany Artistnation is an award-winning playwright, actor, director and songwriter. For the better part of two decades she has created uplifting, thought-provoking and community-minded art on stage and screen. The renaissance woman has now taken her message to the recording studio.

“Honor” is the debut single from ArtistNation, released worldwide via all major streaming services on November 21, 2022. Percussive synth arpeggios introduce the track before the beat drops on a hard 808 trap groove. The rapper steps to the mic with a verbose lyrical freestyle about female empowerment, black pride and the virtues of remaining honorable. The song brings to mind the great Missy Elliott with its mix of old-school hip-hop, reggaeton vibes and Mahoghany’s playful rhythmic flow.
