We first heard from Sophie J Posey last year upon the release of her single and video “The Best Time of My Life“. That song introduced readers of The Static Dive to a multi-talented singer/songwriter and Rollins College graduate with a timeless cinematic pop sound. The genre-bending artist mixes elements of classical, show tunes, pop and jazz into her own distinct style.
An international artist, Sophie J Posey lived all over the world before she and her husband made their home in France. In recent years the lifelong musician has devoted her energies to developing her songwriting, composing and production skills. In addition to the three EPs she has produced as a solo artist, Sophie has also composed Music for numerous short films and YouTube videos.
“Le Temps” is the brand new single from Sophie J Posey, released worldwide via all major streaming services on November 7, 2022. The song is a dramatic and theatrical tragedy. Accompanied by an orchestral arrangement of strings and light percussion, singing in French Sophie delivers a soulful and impassioned tale of heartache, longing and the tragic impermanence of time.

7 Questions with Sophie J Posey
Where are you from?
I am a Venezuelan, adopted by French parents, who lived in the USA for 25 years. In 2021 I moved to France with my American husband.
How long have you been making music?
Since I was twelve years old. I had been taking piano lessons from age 7 to 10, then stopped due to family circumstances. I started experimenting on the piano and have been composing ever since.
Who are the musicians involved in your project?
Just me. I came up with the instrumentals, (played in a DAW with MIDI instruments) the lyrics and sang the song.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
I find inspiration in tons of music: soft rock, classic blues, French pop, Motown, British invasion, smooth jazz, big band, classical, ethnic music. There are too many to name individually, but off the top of my head, I am struck by The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Debussy, Mussorgsky, Chopin, Michel Berger, Michel Sardou, France Gall, Veronique Sanson, Yanni, Loreena McKennitt…
What is your greatest non-musical influence?
Story writing. I was an avid reader and read books of all kinds. I spent hours listening to classical music and reading the composers’ biographies as well as stories based on the music. This exposure gave her a thirst to create my own stories and music crafted around stories. All music in my view, is a well-crafted story told in a different medium.
What inspired you to create this project?
A melody that popped into my head when I was sixteen. I could hear the orchestra in my mind as well as the beginnings of lyrics. I knew it was a wistful song about life and existence. But it took many years for my technical skills to catch up, and for me to be able to compose the instrumentals and write lyrics that would connect with the listener. Recently, I’ve been noticing people struggling to push through and enjoy life; they’ve lost their joy of living. So I figured finalizing this song was perfect timing.
What are your plans for the future (musically)?
I am working on an orchestral album based on the Romanovs’ life. I am also working on a couple jazz songs, and a synth experimental song. I’m also collaborating with poets to create music for their poems. I hope as I settle more in France, to find local filmmakers so I can score their films. I’d also like to eventually start performing live, but first I’ll need to find a band; as sadly the musicians I work with are all scattered around the globe.
