The Losers – Live Demos 2022

Live Demos 2022

The Losers are a hardcore punk band who made their professional recording debut in 2021 with the album Born to Loose. That 8-track set introduced a San Francisco ensemble with a raw and live vibe. Conjuring the sound and attitude of classic 80’s West Coast hardcore, they pair an overdriven rock & roll cacophony with plenty of curled-lip attitude.

Live Demos 2022 is the brand new album from The Losers, released worldwide via all major streaming services on April 14, 2022. As the title suggests, the seven song collection is a live, loose and raw rock & roll assault. From the opening guitar voodoo intro of “Aligned With My Valus” to the not-so-subtle “Subtle Dementia,” the band cranks their amps to eleven and delivers pure, unadulterated punk noise. It is fantastic.

Within that framework the band mixes things up a bit. “Negative Attachment” filters their hardcore foundation through a bit of riff rock. On the aptly titled “Anything Goes” the quartet throws in some acid rock jamming. And “Dead Man Walking” packs plenty of heavy metal thunder into its E-string rumble.

Back in the day, punk and metal were sometimes thought of as opposing forces, especially with English punks of the late 70’s who viewed their music as a middle finger to the mainstream music establishment. The genre’s American originators on the other hand (Ramones, Iggy & the Stooges, New York Dolls) were more comfortable embracing the music of their predecessors. Eventually grunge would merge the two styles into a new sound altogether.

The Losers close their set with a high-octane, punk-injected cover of the Led Zeppelin heavy metal classic “Communication Breakdown.” Clocking in at just over five minutes, the track is three times longer than almost every other song on the record. They’re punks of course, so we can assume there is a dose of irony. But tongue-in-cheek or not, the band freaking kills it.

8 Questions with The Losers

The Losers

Where are you guys from?

Sucka Free City. San Francisco California. Where the sun shines on the bay.

How long have you been making music?

Individually we’ve all been playing in various bands since we were children, but together since 2019.

Who are the musicians involved in your project?

Ethan , Evan , Steve , and Xay Loser or whatever drummer in rotation at the time haha.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

Well first and for most 1980s American Hardcore punk.  But to get more specific we really wanted to start a band that was reminiscent of the bands that got us into this kind of music. So I’m talking about early Bad Religion, SST records, Circle One, some DC bands like Iron Cross and The Faith. Also some of the 90s going into 2000s bands Like Career Suicide, Male Nurses, Regulations, idk Mike Watt, Sick Pleasure/Code of Honor . Lots of bands haha

What is your greatest non-musical influence?

Fear. The fear of everything we feel insecure about. And anger. The discomfort the world brings us in every shape and form. Being desperate (haha). Also just the general necessity to create something.

What inspired you to create this project?

Years of not believing in ourselves .

What are your plans for the future (musically)?

To make the greatest Rock n roll record of all time.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

Kiss my grits and god bless!
