Dejhare’s Uplifting New Groove ‘Plead The Fifth’

We first heard from Dejhare  in August of last year upon the release of her EP “D7,” featuring reimagined version of seven songs from her 2019 debut album “Unbreakable.” That record introduced us to a thoughtful, socially conscious singer/songwriter with a taste for Deep House rhythms and World Beat grooves. She followed in December with “Do What You Gotta Do,” a dance track that offered advice for surviving COVID.

Dejhare (pronounce deɪ-Jhar) is an international singer/songwriter who rose from the poverty of her childhood to travel the world. She has lived and worked in every corner of the globe. In her travels she grew to recognize how alike people across the world really are. After a lifelong love of music, in 2019 she launched her solo career with a mission to combine the dance music she loves with her personal message of empathy, unity and love. She speaks to our shared dreams, longings, memories and joy.

“Plead the Fifth ” is the brand new EP from Dejhare, released worldwide to all major streaming services on July 23, 2021. The 5 song collection finds the singer facing the new world of 2021 and recognizing that the only way humanity can move forward is together. With uplifting dance grooves and thoughtful, empathetic lyrics she makes the case for forgiveness of each other and ourselves, and for societal healing through personal growth.

It addresses the complexities of navigating todays’ increasingly complex world from both an emotional, spiritual, and intellectual perspective… In essence, the EP is about us all being in this together and by extension it empowers and frees the individual.

The record opens on the chillout electronic vibes and Deep House rhythm of “Take Five,” a song that encourages us to take a breather from the insanity of daily life and stop to smell the roses. “Skeletons” kicks up the tempo for an energetic EDM track with a catchy 80’s-Pop inspired melody and a message of personal accountability.

“Perception” opens on a beautiful piano ballad and gradually builds to a smooth Disco House groove featuring strings and swirling, syncopated rhythms. The song encourages us to evolve beyond our programming and to stop the discrimation of those we perceive as different or foreign. “Not Alone” speaks directly to those who have been marginalized and ensures them simply that they are not alone.

The record closes on the title track, “Plead the Fifth.” The song celebrates humanity’s shared strengths and weaknesses. Over a cool retro-electronic Funk groove, Dejhare sings directly to our individual shortcomings and encourages us to take heart in what the singer refers to as our “general collective misadventure.” We must forgive ourselves, forgive each other and work together to build a better future.
