Nathan Yates’ Soulful and Heartbreaking “Better Off”

Nathan Yates is a singer/songwriter and performer currently based in New York City. The multi-faceted artist came to the Big Apple by way of the rest of the world. A self described nomad, he has appeared in theatrical productions and music shows all over the United States and the world. His work and travels have brought him from the massive stage of The MUNY in St. Louis to small clubs in Germany and Amsterdam, and countless points in between. His rich experiences and worldly view inform every phrase of his writing.

“Better Off” is the latest single from Nathan Yates, released to all major streaming services on January 22, 2021. The track finds the singer broken and apologetic. The emotional downtempo ballad is a heartbreaking confessional breakup song. Accompanied by an organic Alt-Country ensemble of guitar, piano, bass and drums, the singer delivers a goodbye letter to a lost love. As he alludes to past and current sins, he says goodbye with the heart wrenching realization that, “You’re better of without me in the end.” Meanwhile the top notch band delivers a warm and soulful performance, with some particularly nice bluesy guitar throughout.
