Before I move forward with this post, I would like to honor Eddie Van Halen and his profound talent on the guitar.  Rest in peach EVH.

Van Halen as a band was formed in 1973 in Pasadena, California.  They went on to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.

In 1985, Sammy Hagar replaced David Lee Roth as lead vocalist (Roth left to focus on solo career).  The new lineup recorded four albums that were certified Multi-Platinum.  

In 1996, Gary Cherone replaced Hagar as lead vocalist.  The new lineup did not fare well with the 1998 album, Van Halen III, and Cherone eventually left in 1999.

Van Halen (1978) - No. 19 on Billboard pop music charts...Sold over 10 million copies - Platinum Certification

Four follow up albums certified Multi-Platinum

1984 album - 10 million copies sold ... Lead single, "Jump", No. 1 in the U.S.

The band reunited with Sammy Hagar in 2003 to launch a worldwide tour in 2004.  The band also released a double-disc hits collection - The Best of Both Worlds.  Hagar left in 2006.

David Lee Roth returned to Van Halen in 206.  Eddie Van Halen's son, Wolfgang Van Halen replaced Michael Anthony as bass guitarist.

A Different Kind of Truth (2012) - Last studio album ... First with the return of Roth ... Only one with Wolfgang

Van Halen has sold 56 million albums in the U.S. and over 80 million albums worldwide, making them 20th on the RIAA list of best-selling artists in the United States (as of 2019) and one of the best-selling bands of all time.  

Van Halen is one of five rock groups to have two albums sell over 10 million copies in the U.S. (as of 2007).  As an American band, they are one of two with the most multi-platinum albums.  VH1 listed Van Halen No. 7 on its 100 Hard Rock Artists of All Time.

Van Halen has 13 number one singles on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart.

Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance & 2 Nominations

American Music Award for Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Album & 8 Nominations 

MTV Video Music Awards - 3 Wins, 7 Nominations for the "Right Now" video & Video of the Year award

"Jump" won a VMA for Best Stage Performance at the launch MTV Video Music Awards in 1984

In total, Van Halen has recorded 12 albums from 1978 to 2012.
