Born after Y2K, Monaleo is one the youngest female rappers on this list. Born Leondra Roshawn Gay, she released her debut single ‘Beating Down Yo Block’ in Feburary 2021, after the song went viral on YouTube.

She dropped her debut album Where The Flowers Don’t Die in May 2023 – the same month that she gave birth to her first child, with rapper Stunna 4 Vegas.

Latto

Age: 24

Latto is one of the best-known young rappers on this list, after initially rising to fame on the 2016 reality TV show The Rap Game.

Latto famously turned down the record deal she was offered, and went her own way. It would seem that the decision paid off for her. In 2019 she came striking back with her massive single ‘Bitch from da Souf.’

Her 2020 song ‘Big Energy,’ however, took her to new heights, peaking at number three on the Billboard Hot 100.

She was nominated for the Grammy award for Best New Artist in 2023, highlighting the impact she is having.

Rico Nasty

Born: 7 May 1997
Age: 26

The innovative and intriguing Rico Nasty is one of the best-known Young Female Rappers on the scene today. Blending rap with elements of punk and metal, she has described her music as “sugar trap.”

She burst into the mainstream in 2018 with her single ‘Smack a Bitch,’ which is approaching 150 million  streams on Spotify alone. Her debut album Nightmare Vacation topped Billboard’s Hotseekers chart.

Doechii

Jaylah Ji’mya Hickmon, better known as Doechii, rose to fame thanks to the viral success of her song ‘Yucky Blucky Fruitcake’ on TikTok in 2021.

Her biggest commercial success so far has been her 2023 single ‘What It Is (Block Boy)’ featuring Kodak Black, which reached number seventy-three on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

She was awarded the Rising Star Award from Billboard Women in Music in 2023 – testament to her rapidly growing reputation on the scene..

Rubi Rose

Born: 2 October 1997
Age: 25

Rapper and model Rubi Rose first rose to fame thanks to her role in Migos’ music video ‘Bad and Boujee.’ 

Although she doesn’t rap on the song, the smash hit song topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and, amassing over a billion streams on YouTube, brought Rubi Rose significant attention. She later featured briefly in the video for Cardi B’s legendary ‘WAP’ – a video which has also amassed over a billion streams.

Rubi launched her music career with a 2018 remix of the Playboi Carti song ‘On Top,’ with her own 2019 song ‘Big Mouth’ being her biggest hit to date.

Flo Milli

Born: 9 January 2000
Age: 23

Born at the very beginning of Y2K, Flo Milli is one of the youngest female rappers on the scene, and also one of the best known, thanks to her viral success.

Her two 2019 singles, ‘Beef FloMix’ and ‘In the Party’ went viral on TikTok, and as a result, remain her biggest hits to date.

She dropped her debut mixtape Ho, Why Is You Here? in 2020, and her debut album You Still Here, Ho? in 2022.

Lakeyah

Born: 21 February 2001
Age: 22

One of the first female rappers to emerge from Milwaukee, Lakeyah has experienced a rapid rise to relative success. 

Off the back of a freestyle over 42 Dugg and Lil Baby’s song ‘We Paid’ which went viral, the young rapper was signed to Quality Control Records. She went on to be featured in XXL magazine’s esteemed “Freshman” list in 2021.

Her biggest hits to date include ‘Female Goat’ with City Girls (2020), and ‘Mind Yo Business’ featuring Latto (2022).

GloRilla

Born: 28 July 1999
Age: 23

Gloria Hallelujah Woods, better known as GloRilla, may be one of the youngest female rappers on this list, but she boasts impressive chart success with several Billboard Hot 100 hits.

GloRilla first rose to notoriety with her 2022 single ‘F.N.F. (Let’s Go)’ which reached number forty-two on the Billboard Hot 100, and saw her nominated for a Grammy award for Best Rap Performance.

She struck again with her song ‘Tomorrow’ featuring Cardi B (2022) which peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100.

She was honoured with the Best New Hip Hop Artist award at the BET Hip Hop awards in 2022.

Ice Spice

Age: 23

Born at the turn of the new millennium, Ice Spice reached prominence with her 2022 song ‘Munch (Feelin’ U),’ which went viral on TikTok. She has gone on to rapid success, with successive 2023 singles landing top five spots in the Billboard Hot 100.

Her first major hit came with ‘Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2’ with PinkPantheress, which reached number three on the Hot 100, and received platinum certification. Rapper and social media personality ppcocaine – standing for pretty pink cocaine – is best known for her 2020 song ‘3 Musketeers’ which went viral on TikTok, becoming known as a “lesbian anthem.”

Later releases including ‘Hugh Hefner’ (2020) and ‘PJ’ (2020) have also amassed a high number of streams.

Known for her sexually explicit and provocative lyrics, she has cited fellow young female rappers Rico Nasty and Flo Milli as key influences on her music.
