The rain lost its sound
The deluge washed my breath away
How many times will we go around
You’re headed out west and me, I’m eastbound
Too late for either of us to stay
Your chasing dreams and I’m lost in the background
Yeah, I’m lost inside my mind
Wondering how we can put things right
I remember nights we’d kick back, laugh and unwind
Now I remember all the ways you’ve been unkind
How did we get to a place where we always fight
They say love is blind, they say love is reassigned
It was a Red Ribbon Romance, red ribbon romance
You became my poetry and I was your muse
All poppy petals, cool against my skin
Lost in your eyes, lost in that trance
We rewrote those old rhythm and blues
Who knew we were playing on crooked avenues
I should warn the stars not to shine
Because this world’s gone dark
I’m as bitter as your desert wine
But don’t worry honey, I’ll be just fine
You stole my fire but I’ve still got my spark
I’ll set the sky on fire and make the stars realign
It was a red ribbon romance, red ribbon romance
You became my poetry and I was your muse
All poppy petals, cool against my skin
Lost in your eyes, lost in that trance
We rewrote those rhythm and blues
Who knew we were playing on crooked avenues
Once bitten, twice shy
You were my everything
Now I’ve tossed that ring
I’m a philosopher, I dream
You are the reason I have wings
It was a red ribbon romance, red ribbon romance
You became my poetry and I was your muse
All poppy petals, cool against my skin
Lost in your eyes, lost in that trance
We rewrote those rhythm and blues
Who knew we were playing on crooked avenues
I’m done paying my dues
done paying dues
