Up and Down the Pacific Coast from SoCal

Currently planning a trip to drive up the Coast of California and Oregon in the distant future, after things are safely open. I live in Orange County, CA and have never been up north besides San Fran (surprisingly!). Since San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles have been my stomping grounds for pretty much my whole life, I have no desire to stop over in these cities and would have Santa Barbara be my official start and end.As of now, this is my currently 3-week itinerary. It is all along highway 1 and highway 101 through Oregon, and our goal is to make it to the Willamette Valley near Portland and spend a couple of nights there recharging and wine-tasting. Me and my girlfriend are both young and, while we really enjoy taking it slow, we don't mind driving around 3-4 hours each day along the coast or 4-5 hours if we hit traffic. Our main desire is nature, seeing the coast, staying in places along the coast where we can see the sunset, and trying local foods/craft beer. While this is tentative, what do you recommend or suggest changing about this itinerary? We are going up the coast and then returning along the coast so, in a way, many of these are "2 night stays" although they are not going to be consecutive. Also, important to note: we have both been to San Francisco and are not concerned about spending too little time there. Our Budget is around $2000 each. We have found that by sharing AirBNB's, BNB's, campsites, and other stays we can spend around $1200 on lodging. Gas is paid for by my girlfriend's company, so no money issue with that.Other questions: Would Portland merit an overnight? Or could we "do" it as a day trip from the Willamette Valley (Yamhill). Are we going through the Oregon Coast too quickly?Day 1: Drive to Santa Barbara, Caday 2: San Luis Obispo, CADay 3: Santa Cruz, CADay 4: San Fran / Oakland, CADay 5: Fort Bragg, CADay 6: Eureka, CADay 7: Brookings, ORDay 8: Heceta Head Lighthouse, OR (Yachats)Day 9: Cannon Beach, ORDay 10: Willamette Valley, OR (Yamhill County)Day 11: Willamette Valley, OR (Yamhill County)Day 12: Willamette Valley, OR (Yamhill County)Day 13: Bend, ORDay 14: Bend, ORDay 15: Mount Shasta, CA (Camping)Day 16: Eureka, CADay 17: Mendocino, CADay 18: San Francisco, CADay 19: Big Sur (Camping, Lodge)Day 20: Cambria, CA or San Luis Obispo, CADay 21: Santa Barbara, CADay 22: Drive Home - Orange County, CA via /r/travel https://ift.tt/2WW8AVq https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
