Gwen first asks us “to keep in mind that the rapist was a former co-worker who she didn’t have a reason to fear” before he attacked her.  It’s based on a true life event that has happened all too often to women who believe they can trust the men in their lives.  Acquaintance rape is complicated because a woman doesn’t believe a man she knows would harm her in this way.  Further, the act of coercion is a tactic used by men to justify arriving at what he believes is some form of consent.  Consent to him means she tired of saying the word "no,” after wearing her down with verbal taunts and physical abuse.
