Come September 29 at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, will hit the stage in the first of a series of productions known as The Legend Play.

A Globe Productions initiative, The Legend Play will be in honour of the Chief Imam who will also receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Speaking at the launch of The Legend Play at the Accra International Press Centre last Monday, the CEO of Globe Productions, Latif Abubakar said they had over the years touched the lives of over 30,000 patrons across the country with their educative and hilarious stage plays.

“We have so far produced 14 plays which have been performed 63 times across the country. Glory to God, Globe is 10 years today and we believe it is time to tell our stories, hence the introduction of a new theatre product dubbed, The Legend Play.

“The Legend Play is an annual stage play with storylines focused on real life experiences of prominent and respected personalities in our society, those who have transformed lives and promoted positive change in our society,” he said.

According to Latif Abubakar, the objectives of The Legend Play are to inspire, entertain and educate people on real life experiences of our legends.

“The unique thing about The Legend Play is that the personalities are involved in the enacting of their life stories on stage, the legends themselves will play a role in the play and at the end we will honour them with a Lifetime Achievement Award,” he stated.

The Chairman for the occasion, the Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante announced the Chief Imam as the first legend to be celebrated and added that Apostle Prof. Kwadwo Opoku Onyinah and Archbishop Charles Palmer Buckle will all be part of the play.

“It is said that a country that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for. We have a lot of people who have contributed to the peace and development of this country and we need to honour such heroes.

“The Legend Play is intended to fish out the names of such heroes. This year, the person we are celebrating is the national Chief Imam Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu. He has contributed immensely to the peace and development of this country and it is just right that we celebrate him in a special way with The Legend Play,” he said.

The spokesperson of the Chief Imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, said it was important to celebrate our heroes to encourage young people.“Young people are coming up and need mentors, it is important for us to inspire young people to want to aspire to be like such heroes.”

He added that the Chief Imam was ready for the night and encouraged everyone to be at the Kempinski Hotel on September 29 to see him in action. There will be two shows at 4p.m. and 8p.m.
