Spirit Valley Neighborhood business celebrates 20 years with a name change

DULUTH, MN- Beaner’s Central is celebrating being in business for 20 years, and part of that celebration includes a name change.

The cafe is now called Wussow’s Cafe.

Owners say the name change has come because the original name can be seen as offensive.

“Although the name Beaner’s was chosen twenty years ago out of innocent unawareness, it is undeniable that this word is xenophobic and offensive to many,” said owner Jason Wussow and his wife Tina.

To celebrate 20 years Wussow’s also had free live music, food, and games for anyone who came by.

Over the years, the Spirit Valley Neighborhood has seen change, and businesses like Wussow’s have helped.

“The bars are getting together, we’re doing a pub crawl together for Spirit Valley Days. The community is really coming together in a good way,” said Wussow.

Charlie Parr who started his music career in Duluth performed at the event.
