Manchester United eye Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez as cheaper alternative to Andre Onana

Brighton Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has emerged as a potential target for Manchester United.

The 25-year old has fallen out of favour under Roberto de Zerbi, who has made Jason Steele his number one, and he is likely to fall further down the pecking order following Monday's confirmation that they are signing Bart Verbruggen from Anderlecht for £16.3m.

Sanchez has been one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League, is a good passer of the ball - which Erik Ten Hag wants - and kept a clean sheet against United for 120 minutes of the Carabao Cup Final.

Though born in Spain and a full Spanish international, Sanchez has an English father and has been in Brighton's academy since he was 15 so is regarded as homegrown.

Brighton would be looking for around £30m for the keeper as United and other Premier League sides begin to circle.

United have been intent on signing Andre Onana from Inter Milan, who worked with ten Hag at Ajax, but his £50m price tag means they are sourcing cheaper alternatives so they can throw more of their initial budget at signing a striker.

Feyenoord's Justin Bijlow is one option they are well aware of as is Kevin Trapp at Frankfurt but staff have others on their list too in similar price range. Another advantage for Sanchez at least is that he has Premier League experience.

Ten Hag ideally wants new signings in place by next week but budget restrictions have hindered United's progress, not to mention their takeover saga.

Mason Mount completed his medical on Tuesday ahead of joining from Chelsea for £55m but United want a striker and keeper sorted as soon as possible before working on sales then other additions.
