A Premier League Footballer who has been accused of raping a woman has had his bail extended until August.

The new season is just a month away and the player could have the accusation hanging over his head when that campaign gets underway. The 30-year-old was arrested in Barnet last July after a woman in her 20s alleged that he had raped her.

The player cannot be named for legal reasons, with the alleged incident having taken place in June 2022. The player was further arrested on two other incidents of rape against a different women, though no action will be taken against him for one of those offences.

The Metropolitan Police have previously confirmed the allegations that they are investigating. The player's bail has been extended several times in the year since the incident.

"On July 4, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to police. It was reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022. On July 4, a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody," the force said previously.

"While in custody, he was further arrested on suspicion of two incidents of rape that were alleged to have been committed in April and June of 2021, against a different woman in her 20s.

"No further action will be taken in relation to the offence in June 2021 but the investigation into the remaining offences is ongoing."

According to the Daily Mail, the star's bail has been extended once again, this time until August. The player denies the allegations and shortly after his arrest his club stated he will not be suspended, while the police investigation is ongoing.

"We are aware of the allegations which are currently the subject of a police investigation," the club said. "We have confirmed that the player denies the allegations and is on police bail pending the outcome of their enquiries. There have been no charges laid and the player can fulfil his professional commitments including permitted travel.

"We take our commitments and responsibilities seriously and have followed our safeguarding policies and procedures. We will keep this matter under close consideration and will review further if circumstances change."
