Erik ten Hag 'furious' over transfers as Napoli ace set to U-turn on 'promise' to Man Utd

Manchester United had hoped to add Serie A sensation Kim Min-Jae to their defence this summer but the Napoli ace has now U-turned by opting to join Bayern Munich

Erik Ten Hag is reportedly furious as Napoli’s Kim Min-Jae looks set to break his “promise” to Manchester United.

United identified the central defender, 26, as one of their priority signings in the summer transfer window as they looked to add more quality to their backline.

Reports initially claimed the South Korean international was nearing a move to Old Trafford, with the United hierarchy planning to pay his £42million release clause.

But it has now emerged that Bayern Munich have hijacked the transfer and Kim is instead expected to sign for the Bundesliga giants on a five-year deal.

A report by Corriere dello Sport claims Kim will be going back on his word by signing for Bayern. The Italian outlet reports he previously gave United “more than a promise” that he would commit to becoming a Red Devils player.

The situation has left manager Ten Hag increasingly frustrated, having also missed out on a deal for wantaway West Ham captain Declan Rice due to United’s drawn-out takeover process.

Reports suggest the side’s Glazer ownership will not splash out this summer if they are to sell the club. Their delay in completing the sale has in turn meant missing out on elite players in the transfer window.

United’s third-placed Premier League finish put them in a great position to seek world class talent with the offer of Champions League football - a luxury not shared by rivals Tottenham, Liverpool or Chelsea.

Yet the ongoing Qatari takeover saga has presented an uncertain image to players such as Chelsea’s Mason Mount. The midfielder is believed to be keen to play under Ten Hag next season, but the move has been delayed by the Glazers’ talks.

All three transfer blows are unlikely to please the Dutch manager, who has made it very clear that investment is crucial to United’s success next season.

"We are in the right direction, but we are not where we have to be, there's still a long way to go, there's potential in this team and individual players,” he said.
