Asian shares mixed
Asian shares traded on a mixed note on Wednesday amid fears about surging coronavirus cases.Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 was little changed, inching down less than 0.1% to finish at 22,534.32. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 picked up 0.2% to 5,965.70. South Korea’s Kospi added 1.4% to 2,161.51. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng slipped 0.2% to 24,855.87, while the Shanghai Composite added 0.3% to 2,979.55.

European stocks weak as investors eye coronavirus cases
European equities were weak on Wednesday, weighed down by defensive sectors, as investors exercised caution amid a surge in coronavirus cases world over.The pan-European STOXX 600, which had closed at a near two-week high in the previous session, slid 0.5%, with food and beverage, telecoms, and healthcare stocks falling between 0.7% and 0.8%.

Govt relaxes manufacturing norms for PPE makers: PTI
The government has relaxed norms of having in-house testing for three kinds of Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) to boost supply of quality gears during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Press Trust of India reported today, citing a government order.The norms have been relaxed for filter half masks, surgical face masks and eye protectors by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).Earlier, license to manufacture these products was given to those having in-house testing facilities.This norm has been relaxed and manufacturers are now required to test the samples for specified requirements in labs of BIS licensees who have in-house testing facilities, or in BIS recognised or empanelled private or government labs, it added.

Dispute over Rs7 crore pact puts Bank of Baroda at risk: Report
A dispute between two big state-run companies over a ₹69.7 million ($920,000) guarantee has put one of India’s largest lenders under regulatory scrutiny and reignited questions about enforcement of contracts in Asia’s No. 3 economy, Bloomberg reported today.The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the central bank to assess and act against Bank of Baroda in a case that has its roots in a three-year-old wrangle with Indian Oil Corp. A two-judge bench headed by Justice Hemant Gupta also dismissed Bank of Baroda’s petition challenging a lower court’s request that authorities consider revoking the license of Bank of Baroda, which is India’s third-largest state-run lender.“It shall be open to the Reserve Bank of India to take such action as may be necessary in the facts and circumstances of the case,” according to the Supreme Court order published on its website.

Govt wants ‘origin of products’ displayed, calls e-commerce firms for meet: Report
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has called e-commerce majors, including Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal and Paytm, for a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the ‘displaying origin of the product’ on these platforms, as anti-China sentiment picks up in the country, Business Standard reported today.This follows the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) platform making it mandatory for its listed sellers to specify the country of origin while registering all new products on the portal.

Reliance Industries jumps nearly 3%
Shares of Reliance Industries jumped 2.7% to ₹1,766.30 apiece on Wednesday amid choppy trade in the broader market. RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani has said the company is working to complete contours of a $15-billion deal with Saudi Aramco. Announced in the oil-to-telecom conglomerate’s last year annual general meeting (AGM), the deal was to be concluded by March 2020 but has been delayed.

India Cements reported a standalone net loss of ₹111.1 crore for the March quarter. The company incurred a one-time loss of ₹100 crore due to covid-19 uncertainty. Standalone revenue were at ₹1,151.9 crore.

Sensex near day’s low
The Sensex was near its day low at 35,394 and down from its intraday high of 35,707 points. Indian equities came under pressure dragged down by private banks and pharma stocks.The Nifty 50 index was below the psychological level of 10,500 and hovered around 10,450. Nifty sectoral indices was mixed, with gains in Nifty Auto and Nifty PSU Bank index (both up 1%) offset by Nifty Pharma and Nifty Private Bank index (down 1%).In the broader market, the S&P BSE MidCap was marginally up while the S&P BSE SmallCap index dipped half a per cent.

Glenmark Pharma down over 4%
Shares of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals were down over 4% at ₹465.10 on the BSE on Wednesday on profit booking, having touched an intra-day low of ₹450. The stock has declined 13% in the past two sessions.On Monday, shares of drug maker had surged 27% to ₹520 after the company received approval for Favipiravir’s (Fabiflu), a potential covid-19 drug, by the Drug Controller General of India.The approval of Favipiravir (emergency usage approval) is for patients with mild to moderate symptoms of the disease.

Oil India on Wednesday said the closure notice served by Pollution Control Board Of Assam for Baghjan Oil Field has been withdrawn.Due to stoppage/blockades, there was production loss of 129 MT of crude oil and 0.16 MMSCM of natural gas as reported on 22 June. Operations were disrupted in 16 oil wells and 1 gas well. Cumulative production loss since 2 May due to bandhs and blockades – 8291 MT Crude oil, 10.56 MMSCM of natural gas.

Sensex, Nifty pare gains
Having surged at open, the BSE Sensex and the Nifty 50 gave top most of their gains. The Sensex was in the red, down 46 points at 35,384, the Nifty slipped below the crucial 10,500. ICIC Bank, Sun Pharma, and IndusInd Bank were the top losers on the Sensex. Asian Paints rose the most, up nearly 6%.On the Nifty, 24 stocks advanced and 25 declined. One was unchanged.

Hinduja brothers locked in legal dispute over family assets: Report
The UK-based Hinduja brothers are locked in a legal dispute in the High Court in England over their billionaire family assets, according to media reports.The case has been brought by Srichand Parmanand Hinduja, 84, described as the “patriarch” of the family, against brothers G P Hinduja, 80, P P Hinduja, 75, and A P Hinduja, 69, and revolves around the “validity and effect” of a letter dated July 2, 2014.

Balrampur Chini jumps 5% after Q4 results
Shares of Balrampur Chini Mills rose 5% to ₹141.70 on the BSE on Wednesday after the company reported a 31% year-on-year rise in revenue to ₹1,740 crore for the March quarter, driven by exports. Operating profit declined 6.6% to ₹241 crore, while net profit fell 14.8% to ₹230 crore.

India coronavirus case tally races past 4,50,000
With a record 15,968 coronavirus cases reported in the past 24 hours, the total reported coronavirus infected people in India has risen to 4,56,183. The death toll has gone up to 14,476 as covid-19 claimed 465 lives in the past 24 hours. According to Health Ministry data, 2,58,684 have recovered so far while there are 1,83,022 active cases in the country. The recovery rate stands at 56.70% in India. About 10,500 patients recovered in past 24 hours.The World Health Organization has warned that the pandemic was accelerating as economies reopen. The US has reported about 23.46 lakh cases and 1.21 lakh deaths. Brazil has reported over 11 lakh cases while Russia about 6 lakh cases.

Shares of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL), Oil India (OIL), GAIL India, Power Grid Corporation of India and NTPC traded on a mixed note on the BSE after Fitch Ratings revised the outlook on these company’s ratings.”Fitch Ratings has revised the outlook on the long-term issuer default ratings (IDR) of six rated Indian government-related entities (GREs) to Negative from Stable. The entities’ long-term IDRs are affirmed at ‘BBB-‘. The rating action follows the revision of the Outlook on India’s ‘BBB-‘ sovereign rating to Negative from Stable on June 18,” it said in a statement.

Asian Paints top gainer on Sensex
Asian Paints was the top gainer on Sensex, up 3.2%, after reporting better than expected earnings. The paint maker’s net profit fell 2.1% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹461.9 crore in the quarter-ended March as the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus hit demand. Revenue from operations fell 7.1% YoY to ₹4,636 crore.CLSA and Credit Suisse have maintained an ‘Outperform’ call on Asian Paints post March quarter earnings.

Bank of Baroda jumps 6%
Bank of Baroda was up over 6% on upbeat results. The lender reported a net profit of ₹507 crore for the three months to March due to lower provisions for bad assets. The bank was expected to post a net loss of ₹161 crore in the March quarter of FY20, according to an average of estimates by 11 analysts polled by Bloomberg.

Oil prices ease as US inventories grow more than expected
Oil futures edged lower on Wednesday, extending losses from previous day, after US crude stockpiles grew more than expected, deepening concerns about a global glut.Brent crude was down 2 cents at $42.61 a barrel in early deals, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell 4 cents, or 0.1%, to $40.33 a barrel.

The three major indexes on the Wall Street ended higher on Tuesday bolstered by signs of economic recovery and optimism about ability of the US government to respond to rising cases of covid-19.The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.5% higher at 26,156.10 points, the S&P 500 gained 0.43% to 3,131.20 and the Nasdaq Composite added 0.74% to end at a fresh record of 10,131.37.Gains on Nasdaq were driven by at least three brokerages raising their price targets for Apple Inc after it announced it would use its own chips for Mac computers.
