PREVIEW: Central States Wrestling – A Glitch in the Matrix – September 30, 2023

A Live Professional Wrestling Event

[Neo sees a black cat walk by them, and then a similar black cat walk by them just like the first one]
Neo: Whoa. Déjà vu.
[Everyone freezes right in their tracks]
Trinity: What did you just say?
Neo: Nothing. Just had a little déjà vu.
Trinity: What did you see?
Cypher: What happened?
Neo: A black cat went past us, and then another that looked just like it.
Trinity: How much like it? Was it the same cat?
Neo: It might have been. I’m not sure.
Morpheus: Switch! Apoc!
Neo: What is it?
Trinity: A déjà vu is usually a glitch in the Matrix. It happens when they change something.

CSW had two belts … two equal belts, and now there is one. Can a company have two equal champions? Perhaps that was a glitch in the Matrix all in itself! It seems CSW management has decided to change the trajectory of the company for now. It’s too early to tell what the ramifications are…

Central States Wrestling – A Glitch in the Matrix marks the beginning of a new era in what many would consider Kansas City’s premier wrestling company. The now unified Central States Championship now sits around the waist of one man – “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt, and he’s not likely to be slowing down anytime soon. Fans have had two champions for nearly a year now, and many felt it was time to solidify who was truly “in charge”. Granted, the results of the big Iron Man Match at Iron Sharpens Iron was anything but “clean”, but for Wyatt a win is a win and he’s still “The King of Kansas City”. As we roll into those crisp autumn months, it’s time to travel once again over to Lenexa, Kansas, pack that National Guard Armory to the gills and scream our heads off once again. I’ll be there, and I hope to see everyone else there as well!

Additional things to look out for include the ongoing war between The Tribe and Miracle Violence Reborn, Gil Rogers’ new winning streak and quite the opposite for Luke Langley, Roscoe Leech’s response to the grizzly beatdown he sustained from his former clients, and Dak Draper picking up the pieces after his hard loss to Jeremy Wyatt. Speaking of Wyatt, he will be facing “Spitfire” Davey Vega, who despite being a familiar face in the area, has been on an absolute roll elsewhere. Vega likely hopes to continue his good luck back in Kansas City.

This is a run-down of all of the announced matches, and what one can expect going into this show. The show is packed to the gills with seven big matches, each showcasing just about every style of pro wrestling you can imagine.

There is usually an extra match on the card once the show starts, so don’t be surprised for that!

The Card:

Dan the Dad VS Wrex Amadeus

While not in Central States Wrestling ring, Wrex Amadeus just got through having a hell of a match against Jeremy Wyatt with Tri States Wrestling about a month ago. It is for that very reason that I am beyond excited to see what happens here against Dan the Dad. Wrex has come out of absolutely nowhere to be one of the most exciting performers in the area in 2023, and has easily some of the best gear (if you like comic books) as well! This matchup against Dan the Dad could be his biggest challenge in CSW as of yet, since Dan is no pushover in any way. I still cite his match against Luke Langley at When the Levee Breaks as one of the best matches of the year in the area, and his ability to provide top notch performances is second to none. Dan the Dad largely ends up in three-way matches quite often in CSW, so this will be a great change of pace in many ways. I have a feeling that this might end up stealing the show for me, but we shall see.

Speaking of top matches – I wonder if anyone would like to see an article about that?

The Tribe (Hoodie, Anaya, and Maddox) w/ Coach Frass VS Miracle Violence Reborn (Derek Neal and Moonshine Mantell) and Austin Reddick w/ Greg Jovi

At Iron Sharpens Iron, a security detail had to be provided to ensure that a match between The Howletts and MVR actually started without immediately devolving into a brawl, so I am at a loss as to how CSW management plans to contain a match like this. For the better part of the summer, these two forces clashed in some form many times with their confrontations often spilling into large portions of the rest of the shows. Their “war” likely caused Dak Draper his match during the Iron Man Match, and it seems like no wrestler or fan alike is safe from these guys. My own son is furious at Derek Neal for stepping on his foot as MVR jumped into the ring at one point, and he won’t be satisfied until The Tribe stands tall against every single one of Jovi’s goons. Hopefully, this will put closure on everything, but I have a sinking suspicion that September 30th will NOT mark the end of the Miracle Violence Reborn rampage.

Dred Roberts VS Gil Rogers

Long time no see for Dred Roberts, a competitor last seen in this area WAY back in December at CSW Deal With The Steel IV: Ultimate Jeopardy. In his CSW debut, Roberts ended up suffering a loss at the hands of the now undefeated Scott Tyler, and I’m sure he’s looking for some form of retribution. He faces the newly-energized Gil Rogers, a man that famously had NEVER won a single match in Kansas City until he answered an open challenge from Orion Starlight a few months ago. Riding that high from that win, he went on to do the unthinkable and secure a victory over “The Black Diamond” Luke Langley. Can Rogers keep the streak going, or will Roberts balance the scales this time around?

The Premier (SK Bishop and Campbell Myers) VS Mike Outlaw and Scott Tyler w/ Roscoe Leech

Well, it finally happened. Roscoe Leech, the once proud manager that led The Premier through a nearly year-long crusade against the entire CSW tag team division, got beat down once again. This time, however, it wasn’t because he was being an unscrupulous bastard of a man, but because he was trying to be good. Leech has seemingly seen the errors in his previous ways, and was trying to have his clients, such as The Premier or Arjun Singh, fight fairly and not keep resorting to back-handed tricks to win matches. After a couple of losses, The Premier obviously took exception to this and let it loose on Mike Outlaw, Scott Tyler and Roscoe at Iron Sharpens Iron. I’m sure some jealousy is involved, with Leech meshing with Tyler VERY well as of late, something that had to ruffle The Premier’s feathers. Ultimately, this beat down has put together a team that, as of one year ago, I would have called you crazy for suggesting such a thing, consisting of Outlaw, Leech, and Tyler. They are going to be out for blood, and unless The Premier has a new “corner guy”, I’m not sure how they can compete!

“2nd to None” Kenny Alfonso VS “The Black Diamond” Luke Langley

“The Black Diamond” Luke Langley has had a VERY productive 2023 aside from the one Gil Rogers-shaped blemish, and should be close to being a contender for the championship if he can regain his footing. That is, unless, this match seals the deal for his year. You see, 2nd to None” Kenny Alfonso is one of the biggest rising stars in the company, and not somebody to take lightly. Alfonso came really close to tasting gold a few months back, but has been somewhat languishing in the under-card after his loss. It’s really a toss-up over who has advantage here. If Langley can buckle down and take this match seriously instead of trying to prove a point, as he did with Rogers, he might just be my pick going into this. However, Alfonso is known to do some amazing things under pressure. This match alone could set the trajectory for who takes over CSW in 2024, and I’m all for it!

“Magnum” Dak Draper VS Gary Jay

Since I was unable to attend when he was last in CSW, this will be my first time seeing Gary Jay live and I am pretty excited! Fans were previously treated to him at Coronation when he and Davey Vega battled The Premier (Campbell Myers & SK Bishop) with The Premier coming out on top. Jay will be facing “Magnum” Dak Draper, who you have got to believe is still fuming after his loss at Iron Sharpens Iron. I’m not sure how that will play into this match, but Draper has to be a bit shaken. Gary Jay wrestles in the St. Louis area a lot, and has some VERY high profile bouts under his belt, including a recent bout against Yuya Uemura and one coming up against the legendary Masato Tanaka! Will Dak Draper be a shell of his former self, or will he use his Iron Man loss to become more ruthless?

“The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt (C) VS “Spitfire” Davey Vega for the newly unified Central States Championship

“Spitfire” Davey Vega experienced a significant defeat against the formidable Krule at Violence Begets Violence wayyy back in April. Typically known as a tag-team specialist (where he excels), Vega seemed to shift his focus following this loss. He made a conscious decision to pursue singles championships, and this change in strategy has yielded impressive results so far. Throughout the latter half of 2023, Vega accumulated numerous opportunities and championship contenderships in various promotions. As of now, he holds at least FOUR championship belts, including the AAW Heavyweight Championship (as reported on Cagematch). There is no wonder why CSW management called him in to be the next challenger for the newly unified Central States Championship held by “The Monarch” Jeremy Wyatt. This is a huge opportunity, and perhaps Vega’s biggest match ever in Kansas City. Can he get the job done, or will Wyatt’s two year reign of terror continue?
