Two major Bollywood films hit the silver screens yesterday—the Ajay Devgn starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and the Deepika Padukone starrer Chhapaak.  Both these movies attracted positive reviews from critics for the performances of the cast.

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is based on the Battle of Sinhagad, which was fought between the Mughal forces led by Udaybhan (Saif Ali Khan) and the Maratha forces led by Tanhaji Malusare (Ajay Devgn,) a commander under Chhatrapati Shivaji.  The film received plenty of positive reviews for its storytelling and brilliant visuals, accompanied by stellar performances by Saif Ali Khan and Ajay Devgn.

Chhapaak is based on the story of Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor.  Deepika Padukone plays the role of Malti, who falls victim to an acid attack and starts a journey to rediscover her mental and emotional wellbeing while fighting a court trial and starting a non governmental organisation to help survivors of acid attacks.  Deepika Padukone’s acting, which was moving and heart wrenching, earned high praises from critics and the film received positive reviews and strong word of mouth publicity.

Coming to the collections, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior closed its day one with a collection of Rs. 15.1 crores, while Chhapaak earned considerably less by closing the day with a little over Rs. 4.77 crores.  However, the latter is expected to pick up pace due to the word of mouth publicity in its favour.  Both these films could not, however, beat the first day collections of Darbar (Rs. 36 crores,) which stars South Indian Superstar Rajinikanth.
