Shikara – Trailer Of Vidhu Vinod Chopra Directorial Return Released

Shikara is a historical drama about the infamous Kashmiri Pandit exodus from the Kashmir Valley.  The film is directed and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, a producer noted for well known films like 1942: A Love Story, Mission Kashmir, the Munna Bhai series, 3 Idiots and PK.  The last directorial venture by Vidhu Vinod Chopra was Eklvaya: The Royal Guard, released in 2007.

The Kashmiri Pandit mass exodus is a black mark in the history of India and Shikara aims to showcase how the Kashmiri Pandits were displaced from their homes.  ‘Shikara’ is an iconic Kashmiri indicator and stands for the wooden boats found on the Dal Lake in Kashmir.

Shikara is the story of resilience in the face of insurmountable odds.  It is also the story of a love which remains unextinguished through 30 years of exile.  A.R. Rahman was roped in to provide the music for this film.

The trailer was released on YouTube and #Shikara began trending on Twitter.  Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films posted the trailer on Twitter saying, “More than 4,00,000 Kashmiri Pandits lost their homes and became refugees in their own country. Three decades later, watch their story unfold. #Shikara trailer out now (sic.)”
