Deepika Padukone 34th Birthday – Best Films Of The Actress

Deepika Padukone, one of the highest paid actresses in India, turns 34 today.  The actress has essayed multiple strong roles in her career so far. Her friends and fans showered birthday wishes on the various social media platforms where Deepika Padukone is very active.  Let us have a look at some of the best works of Deepika Padukone in her career so far.

Om Shanti Om (2007)

Om Shanti Om marked the debut of Deepika Padukone in Bollywood and featured her opposite Bollywood’s Baadshah, Shah Rukh Khan.  Deepika essayed an endearing performance in the movie as the actress Shanti and Sandy, a doppelganger of Shanti. Her performance in the film won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008)

Deepika Padukone played the role of Gayatri, one of the love interests in the life of Raj Sharma (Ranbir Kapoor.)  The film follows the life of Raj and the various women he meets at different stages of his life and how he ends up on bad terms with them.  Gayatri is the last woman Raj meets and she opens his eyes to the pain he caused to the previous women in his life, leading him on a journey to make amends with them.  Raj eventually ends up with Gayatri after his journey.

Love Aaj Kal (2009)

Love Aaj Kal is a comedy drama film starring Deepika Padukone opposite Saif Ali Khan.  The film is about two individuals with the outlook love is not supposed to tie the 2 people involved down.  After a mutual breakup, Meera (Deepika Padukone) and Jai (Saif Ali Khan) part ways. A restaurateur named Veer Singh manages to convince Jai to pursue Meera, who left for India, just like Veer Singh pursued the woman he loves, Harleen Kaur, in 1965.  The rest of the film follows how, years after their separation, Jai and Meera realize their feelings for each other are still alive and end up reuniting.

Cocktail (2012)

Deepika Padukone delivered a breakthrough performance in this film as Veronica, a free spirited girl who takes life as it comes.  The movie is about a love triangle between three characters—Veronica, Meera (Diana Penty) and Gautam (Saif Ali Khan.) Deepika’s performance in the film earned her a nomination for the Best Actress Award at the Filmfare Awards.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)

One of Deepika Padukone’s well known performances is her portrayal of Naina Talwar, a shy medical student who is an introvert but tries to be an extrovert.  On an impulsive decision, Naina chooses to go on a vacation and explore Manali with her friend Aditi (Kalki Koechlin.) Aditi is joined by her friends Kabir (Ranbir Kapoor) and Avinash (Aditya Roy Kapoor,) who are former classmates of Naina as well.  The rest of the film shows how Naina and Kabir fall in love, but move apart as Kabir puts his career first. They later end up meeting again at Aditi’s wedding after years.

Chennai Express (2013)

Chennai Express stars Shah Rukh Khan as Rahul Mithaiwala and Deepika Padukone as Meenamma, Rahul’s love interest.  Chennai Express follows the story of how Rahul accidentally boards the ‘Chennai Express,’ a train travelling to Rameswaram, where he meets Meenamma, the daughter of a local don in Tamil Nadu.  Meenamma is trying to flee a forced marriage when she meets Rahul. The rest of the story shows how Rahul realizes he loves Meenamma and how he ends up persuading Meenamma’s father and Tangaballi, the forced suitor, about his love.

Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013)

This movie is an adaptation of the Shakespeare novel Romeo and Juliet.  Deepika Padukone plays the titular role of ‘Juliet’ in this movie, which is set in a village of Gujarat where two leading families endure a blood feud lasting 500 years.  Deepika’s portrayal as Leela, an opposing clan leader, won her the award for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards.

Piku (2015)

This comedy drama movie starred Deepika Padukone as a headstrong architect, alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan.  Deepika’s performance in the film won her another award for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards, taking her total tally to two.

Bajirao Mastani (2015)

Bajirao Mastani is a period drama directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and is based on the Marathi novel Rau, which narrates the story of Peshwa Bajirao and his second wife Mastani, whose role was played by Deepika Padukone in the film.  Deepika Padukone learnt sword fighting, Kathak, horse riding and the traditional martial art Kalaripayattu for Bajirao Mastani.

 Padmaavat (2018)

Padmaavat is another period drama directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and was based on the story of Padmavati, a Rajput queen, whose role was essayed by Deepika Padukone.  The movie is about how Alauddin Khilji, a Mughal emperor, sees Rani Padmavati and is smitten by her, only to be rebuked by her when he confesses his desire.  The rest of the movie shows how an enraged Alauddin Khilji attacks her kingdom to win her by force and how the Rajput women commit jauhar, a ritual mass suicide, to deny Alauddin Khilji his wish.

Deepika Padukone also appeared in XXX: Return Of Xander Cage, a Hollywood film, alongside Vin Diesel.  Her latest project, Chhapaak, is scheduled to be released on 10th January, 2020.
