With 2019 coming to an end, Bollywood had its fair share of hits and misses.  However there is no denying at the end of the day it has been a good year for  Bollywood with several films going on to become massive blockbusters earning the actors and the teams behind  the films a good payout.

1. War

This film stars Hrithik Roshan and  Tiger Shroff playing the lead roles.   War is about  an intelligence agent who sets about to find his mentor, who has gone rogue, and brings him to justice.  This film saw a huge response from the audience, earning itself the top spot for grossing INR 474.79 crores worldwide.

2. Kabir Singh

This film is a remake of the cult Tollywood movie Arjun Reddy.  This film saw Shahid Kapoor in the lead role.   Kabir Singh is about how a self obsessed doctor spirals out of control after his girlfriend deserts him.  Shahid’s portrayal of Kabir Singh was intense and raw. This film sits second on the list and has grossed INR 379.02 crores worldwide. 

3. Uri: The Surgical Strike

This film is based on the terrorist attacks on the Indian Army Officers in Uri.  Vicky Kaushal plays the lead role of Major Vihaan Singh Shergill. Uri: The Surgical Strike is about how India subsequently retaliates on the terrorist hideouts by carrying a surgical strike.  This movie was riding high on the resurgent nationalism in India. This film sits at third on the list and has grossed INR 342.06 crores worldwide. 

4. Bharat

The film is based on the perspective of a common man named Bharat towards the post independent India.  Salman Khan played the role of the protagonist and carried the film with his star power. Bharat stands at fourth on the list and has grossed INR 325.58 crores worldwide.

5. Mission Mangal

This film is based on the Indian Mars program and the Mars Orbiter Mission by the Indian Space Research Organization.  Akshay Kumar plays the lead role as the Program Director for the  Mars Orbiter mission and the film shows how the mission was carried out, earning India recognition for setting a standard in the space programs.   Mission Mangal stands at fifth on the list and has grossed INR 290.02 crores worldwide.

6. Housefull 4

This movie is the fourth instalment  of the Housefull series and is a comedy film.  Housefull 4 has a multiple star studded cast like Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, Kriti Sanon, Pooja Hegde and Kriti Kharbanda.  This film stands at sixth on the list and has grossed INR 279.13 crores worldwide.

7. Gully Boy

This film is based on the lives of Indian rappers Divine and Naezy and how they made it out of the famous Mumbai slum Dharavi using rap.  Ranveer Singh and Sidhant Chaturvedi star as the two rappers in the film. Gully Boy achieved critical success and was also India’s official entry to the Academy Awards.  This film stands at seventh on the list and has grossed INR 238.16 crores worldwide.

8. Total Dhamaal

This film is the third movie in the Dhamaal franchise  however, has a different storyline compared to the first two instalments.  Total Dhamaal has an ensemble cast comprising of Ajay Devgn, Madhuri Dixit, Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey, Anil Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh and Johnny Lever.  This film stands at eighth on the list and went on to gross INR 228.27 INR worldwide.

9. Chhichhore

This film is a coming of age comedy drama featuring an ensemble cast comprising of Sushanth Singh Rajput, Shraddha Kapoor, Varun Sharma, Naveen Polishetty and Prateik Babbar who are friends in college.  Chhichhore   went on to gross INR 212.67 crores worldwide, and stands at the ninth position.

10. Super 30

Super 30 is based on the real life story of Anand Kumar from Bihar who coaches underprivileged students aspiring to crack the entrance exams for the Indian Institute of Technology.  This film shows the journey of Anand Kumar and how he comes to establish his now iconic Super 30 class. Hrithik Roshan portrayed the role of Anand Kumar . This movie stands at the tenth position and has grossed INR 208.93 crores worldwide.
