How 3 Idiots Is Still Relevant 10 Years Down The Line

3 Idiots is a coming of age Indian comedy Film released in 2009.  This movie is based on the novel Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat.  The film, which completed 10 years yesterday, started trending on Twitter under the hashtag #FilmOfTheCentury.  When the film was released, it was received with applause by audiences spanning across all sections of the society.  The film had everything for everyone. Aged individuals, parents, millennials—everyone could relate to the different characters and subplots in the movie.

Although 3 Idiots was released a decade ago, its popularity, it appears, did not diminish with time.  The film still resonates strongly with the viewers.

Plot

The story of 3 Idiots is based on three students, Rancho (Aamir Khan,) Raju (Sharman Joshi) and Farhan (Madhavan.)  The three of them become close friends while studying at the renowned Imperial College of Engineering.  The plot revolves around their undergraduate years, how they eventually discover their passions and follow them and become successful in their chosen careers.

Ten years down the line

3 Idiots has a good amount of humour which still makes the audience laugh.  Students can find a sense of connection with the various characters depicted in the film.  The film also deftly handles how a student’s family background and their families’ views can affect their thought process, which is a reflection of the current day society.  3 Idiots also tackles deep rooted problems of the Indian education system such as how education is imparted versus how it should be imparted.  The movie also has an endearing love story for all the romantics out there.

3 Idiots went on to break many records and gained massive popularity amongst audience from countries outside India as well.  China and Japan, especially, widely accepted the film and conferred awards on it. Rancho’s mantra “All is well” is fondly remembered even today.
