After its official announcement, Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Season Two has been kept tightly under wraps until today, where a trailer teases the lurking threat of Sauron.

For the uninitiated, The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power is set in the timeline of Middle Earth during the Second Age. This means that all of the events of the Peter Jackson film series and trilogy of books have yet to transpire, but characters and mythos from them are present. The big events that happen during the Second Age are detailed in the series, with season one ending with Sauron convincing the Elves to forge the first rings of power with the remaining mithril deposit they had. While season two has remained under wraps, Prime Video has just published a new trailer, which teases the rise of the Dark Lord, and it can be seen below.

Other big events that have yet to transpire are the fall of the island kingdom of Númenor, the forging of the other rings, and, most importantly, the rise of Sauron. This February, showrunners of Rings of Power, Patrick McKay and JD Payne, have signed a three-year deal with Amazon MGM Studios to continue producing the series, and early work for Season Three is well underway, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

The Lord of the Rings appears to be on fire at the moment, considering that the legendary actor for Gollum/Smeagol, Andy Serkis, just inked a new deal last week that brings Middle Earth to the Silver Screen in another massive film. Serkis will not only star as Gollum in the film, but he will also be featured as director. The film will be titled The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. Another unnamed project helmed by Peter Jackson has also been announced.

While the exciting trailer hasn’t revealed the Season Two launch, it has set the stage for Middle Earth’s biggest threat to rise.
