Mortal Kombat 1’s Ed Boon Teases Horror Icons As Potential DLC

Ed Boon, the Creative Director of Netherrealm Studios and Mortal Kombat 1 has done it again, playfully teasing horror icons as potential DLC add-ons to the Mortal Kombat franchise before announcements.

The Mortal Kombat franchise is no stranger to polarizing crossovers. The title commonly referred to as ‘Mortal Kombat 9′ — titled simply Mortal Kombat — included the likes of God of War‘s Kratos and as DLC, Nightmare on Elm Street‘s Freddy Krueger. Mortal Kombat X followed suit, including Jason Voorhees, Predator, Leatherface, and Alien from their respective franchises, and Mortal Kombat 11 added Robocop, the Terminator and Rambo to the tournament for Earthrealm.

While Mortal Kombat 1 has already revealed crossover characters like The Boys‘ Homelander, Ed Boon has just taken it a step further, by posting a tweet on his official X account (formerly known as Twitter) with a portrait of horror icons with check marks and question marks over their faces. The Tweet can be seen below.

The aforementioned horror icons with green checks over their faces have already been included in past MK titles, but where it gets interesting is the other portraits with ‘?’ over their faces. Michael Myers, Pinhead, Ghostface, Chucky and Jigsaw are pictured as potential additions to the franchise.

Interestingly enough, some tech-savvy fans have datamined dialogue lines from Kombat Pack 2 that are already in-game, and there is a back-and-forth between an unnamed character and Omni-Man unearthed by user Ghostface_4_MK1. Omni-Man says “Fuck movies. Nothing Beats a Good Book” to an unnamed character possibly asking the question “What’s your favourite scary movie?” The Thiny X account posted a thread that outlines the entirety of the mine results.

More datamined details (thanks to IGN) include other potential DLC characters Noob Saibot, Cyrax (Robot), Kotal Khan/He-Man/Conan, Ghostface, Jade, Cassie Cage and Kung Jin. It’s incredibly important to note Ed Boon has a history of trolling fans throughout all of MK‘s history and Mortal Kombat 1 should be no exception. The picture above can allude to a lot of information, or none, so fans should take everything aside from official announcements with a grain of salt until one is made.
