Sony Pictures has announced it has green lit a third Venom movie and a Ghostbusters: Aftermath followup at CinemaCon with no release dates or windows attached to the announced projects.

The film distributor made the announcement during its presentation at the annual theatre owner trade show, CinemaCon, at which Sony Pictures reportedly showed off a sizzle reel of footage featuring Kraven the Hunter, The Equalizer 3, A Man Called Otto, and more. In addition, Sony also announced a new Spider-Man spinoff, El Muerto which is set to hit theatres on January 12th, 2024. The upcoming Sony-Marvel film is set to star musician, actor, and professional wrestler, Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, better known as Bad Bunny and will be Marvel’s first live-action Latino lead.

The untitled Venom 3 film was previously confirmed by Spider-Man movie producer, Amy Pascal in late 2021 during a Spider-Man: No Way Home press tour interview with Collider. Pascal didn’t reveal much at the time, only that they were “in the planning stages right now.” Today’s Venom 3 announcement didn’t reveal any plot details or villains, but it seems Eddie’s story is not over which assumedly will take place after the buddy-cop duo’s very small appearance in the MCU in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The Venom movies have been a financial hit for Sony Pictures with 2018’s Venom accumulating $856 million globally at the box office, while its followup Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021) raked in $502 million worldwide during a pandemic no less. The Spider-Man spinoff news follows Sony delaying its two-part sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the first of which, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to hit theatres on June 2nd, 2023. The second part, which was recently confirmed as Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will release in theatres on March 29th, 2024.
