Ataallah Mohamed

Marrakech 6, Acrylic on Canvas

I ran across an article on Morroco artists. Ataallah Mohmed was one of the abstract artists that broke out with this modern style of abstraction with a flair for local references and experiences. Mutual Art is featuring his work on their site. Born in 1939 and passed in 2014. In 1969, he was an active member of the Plastic Presence movement and included in a manifesto. Other artists associated with the manifesto were Mohamed Hamidi, Farid Belkahia, Mohamed Chebaa, and Mohamed Melihi. He taught in France from 1972-2004. He made contacts with South American artists working in abstract art. Artists like, Carlos Cruz-Diez , Jesus-Rafael Soto , Hugo Demarco were working in simular style at the time Ataallah Mohmed was working.
