Victor Farr Talks Street Runners And Indie Comics

An Interview With Victor Farr

Thank you for taking the time to chat with me! Please tell the readers about yourself and the work you do.

Victor Farr: Born and raised in South Central LA, joined the army at 20 (28 now). I currently write comics on the side.

How long have you been making comics? How did you get your start?

Victor Farr: “Street Runners” is my first big “project” if you want to call it that, but I’ve been involved in creating short stories throughout my whole life. The guys on my team tho, like Gustavo (Co-Writer) have a few comics under his belt and so does Antonio (illustrator).

Where did you come up with the idea for Street Runners?

Victor Farr: Besides being a soldier during the day I’m a member of a motorcycle club at night, so any type of media involving motorcycles is my cup of tea. That’s why I love Akira but I wish the story would expand on motorcycle culture a bit more… I wish they tapped more on the underbelly of that world.

Making comics takes a lot of time and energy. What do you do to stay productive?

Victor Farr: My team and I keep each other motivated. That’s all, to be honest… One day I might not feel like working on it, but then I get a text or a call from Gust about an idea of where should the story go next and it gives me that spark again. Or when Tony sends a page that’s in the inking phase and I find that inspiration again.

How do you foster your own creativity? Do you work at it, wait for inspiration to strike, or something else entirely?

Victor Farr: In my 28 years of life, I’ve seen a lot, been through a lot so it’s not hard to reach in my memory bank and pull something out that I’ve experienced or know of a situation and flip it and make it my own. I’ve had a lot of good and dark times in my life. It’s nothing like turning pain into art.

Burnout happens to the best of us. What strategies do you use to reduce stress and stay motivated?

Victor Farr: I’m a simple man, it doesn’t take much to keep me going. Beer and shit-talking with my club or my team will do the trick.

Outside of making comics, what do you do for fun?

Victor Farr: Ride motorcycles, drink beer, play PC games, create stuff with my 3d printer.

What advice can you give to those who want to make their own comics?

Victor Farr: Just do it, that page won’t finish itself. And don’t settle for less, make something that’s going to be great, and if you feel that it’s not great just scratch the idea and try again. How do you expect people to fall in love with your comic book if you as a creator don’t love your project?

Do you have any upcoming releases, events, or gigs you would like to promote?

Victor Farr: The “Street Runners” world is going to be expanded. We’re planning on 12 issues of the main story and a few spin-offs here and there, so stay tuned. My team has work, like Gust is currently working on a noir-esque detective comic book called “Coranóz” that is planned to launch in 2022. Tony is about to launch “Femme Fatale” on Kickstarter, a mature story about a sexy superheroine. I know y’all love it

Thank you for chatting with me this week. Where can the readers find you and your work?
