An Interview With Melissa Jane

Thank you for taking the time to chat with me this week! Please tell the readers a bit about yourself and the work you do.

Melissa Jane: My name is Melissa, also known as The Angel Unicorn. I work in digital forensics for the private sector helping a variety of forces and the criminal justice system to put away bad guys. I am a happy go lucky type of person and love to engage with new people.

How long have you been streaming? How did you get your start?

Melissa Jane: I started streaming in May of 2020, so approx. 6 months ago. I started as I was doing a 24-hour gaming marathon and thought I would stream it for entertainment. I never realized how much streaming was due to take over my life and how many amazing people I would have met through it.

Streaming is all about community. What do you do to build your audience?

Melissa Jane: The heart and soul of all my streams are my community. Anything they want, they get. Stupid channel points, any form of entertainment and just generally being quite out there and unique keep my community entertained and happy. The game to me is a bonus. The chat and learning about my viewers is what I love and means I can have a more personal friendship with everyone that comes by my channel.

What are your biggest obstacles when it comes to creating content? How do you overcome them?

Melissa Jane: My biggest obstacle is time management. My job is VERY demanding and can leave me mentally drained after a long day at work. I plan ahead for the week and tend to stream a set schedule. However, this is always subject to change and I communicate this to everyone via the discord and social media outlets.

Streaming takes a lot of time and energy. What do you do to stay productive?

Melissa Jane: I love streaming and everything that comes with it, I naturally am a productive person when it comes to this side of my life. However, having friends such as TheDevilsParadise who keeps me focused is perfect and honestly, without people like this, I may not be as productive as I am.

How is working in digital forensics? What kind of work does it entail?

Melissa Jane: Working in digital forensics is difficult and can be very mentally challenging. It involves working on mobile devices and providing evidence for court. As I am a supervisor, it also involves managing a team of analysts and reporting on weekly figures for business purposes. The job is extremely varied but very rewarding.

Burnout happens to the best of us. How do you stay motivated to have a career and creative endeavors?

Melissa Jane: Burnout is definitely something that is real and something I have most certainly suffered from as I work approx. 50+ hours a week with my career. Fitting in streaming has its challenges but the communities I am involved with make it so easy. Also, having the most supportive fiance who supports me in this helps massively. I wouldn’t be where I am in streaming without him and my friends I have met through Twitch.

What advice can you give to those who want to start streaming?

Melissa Jane: Go for it! Take the leap and go with everything. Always be yourself, people will love you for you. It’s always hard at first but if it’s a passion you have, stick with it and you will see results.

Do you have any upcoming events or releases that you would like to discuss?

Melissa Jane: I have a Christmas-themed 24-hour stream coming up on December 5th which is a community challenge redeemed by my viewers. Additionally, I have arranged for a group of streamers to come together in the new year to do a weekend streaming event for two charities (more information after Christmas).

Thank you for chatting with me today! Where can the readers find you and your work?

Melissa Jane: The readers can find my most active on Twitter (@TheAngelUnicorn) or on Twitch.
