An Interview With NobbyTime

Thank you for taking the time to chat with me this week! Please tell the readers a bit about yourself and the work you do.

NobbyTime: Hey everyone, so my real name is Robert (Rob is fine) but I am known as Nobbytime on Twitch. I have been streaming on Twitch for almost 5 months and regulars will have met my fiance Nicole who supports me and creates content with me. YouTube is more recent, I have a great editor called PoetTreeTV who has been supporting me.

Streaming and making Youtube videos take a lot of time and energy. What do you do to stay productive?

NobbyTime: HAHA! I’m not sure I always am. I have a focus on having fun with what I do so it doesn’t feel as much of a drain on energy. With COVID, life has been pretty up and down but with Nicole now and moving house soon I will be able to plan ahead better and be more organized with my content.

Streaming is all about community. What do you do to build your audience?

NobbyTime: I made sure I had my socials available from day 1, somewhere for people to interact with me and most of all Discord where they can with each other too. I love playing games with people so often you will find me streaming with people from my chat, be it Minion Masters, Don’t Starve Together or more recently Sea of Thieves I am rarely alone gaming.

What are your biggest obstacles when it comes to creating content? How do you overcome them?

NobbyTime: My own mental health is my biggest challenge. Fighting off self-doubt and anxiety can be hard but I am honest when I am struggling. I am honest with my community, when I need a day off for mental health reasons I will say so and I get so much support from people it is amazing. Talking helps and we will never remove mental health stigmas without speaking about our struggles, this counts double for men who so often bottle stuff up and suffer.

Outside of streaming and YouTube, what do you do for fun?

NobbyTime: Gaming has always been a part of my life so I will play off-stream too. I also love Dungeons and Dragons, pre-COVID I ran a game as well as played in some, even taught my son how to play. Cooking is another passion of mine, I actually find it relaxing to cook a nice meal.

Do you ever get performance anxiety before streaming or releasing a video? If so, how do you overcome these feelings?

NobbyTime: Not so much performance anxiety anymore, I did in the early days but once you get going it becomes easier. I do struggle with thoughts after video release/stream that people hate it. But my little community is so supportive they pull me through any dark thoughts.

Burnout happens to the best of us. What do you do to keep yourself motivated and inspired to keep creating?

NobbyTime: Have fun, if I am enjoying what I do then so will people watching me. I have seen far too many streamers force themselves to play a game for views but not enjoy it.

What advice can you give to those who want to start streaming?

NobbyTime: Don’t worry about being perfect, about having the best camera or mic the moment you start. Be yourself, have fun, and let your personality shine through.

Do you have any upcoming events or releases that you would like to discuss?

NobbyTime: On Saturday the 5th of December at 6 pm (UK time) we have an anticipated makeup stream. Nicole is so talented and does some amazing work on her Instagram channel, so I have promised to have myself done in make up in a drag act-style for the night. Also in January, I will be doing a charity stream for Mind mental health. Date to be confirmed.

Thank you for chatting with me today! Where can the readers find you and your work?
