Changes to Sri Lanka’s coaching positions for Zimbabwe series

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has reportedly decided to make a few changes in the coaching positions of the national men’s squad named for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour of Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, it has been decided to appoint former Sri Lankan T20 international captain Thilina Kandamby as the batting coach of the Sri Lankan squad for the upcoming tournament with Zimbabwe.

Furthermore, former Sri Lankan cricketer Upul Chandana has reportedly been appointed as the fielding coach of the team for the series, as per sources.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka have revealed preliminary squads for their upcoming white-ball assignments against Zimbabwe, starting 6 January.

Spin-bowling all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who has been sidelined since sustaining an injury in the Lanka Premier League in August, subsequently ruling him out of the Asia Cup and the Cricket World Cup, is now all set to make his much-awaited return.

He has also been appointed as the captain of the T20I side for the upcoming assignment, with Charith Asalanka serving as his deputy. In ODIs, Kusal Mendis will lead the side, with Asalanka as the vice-captain.

Sri Lanka will host Zimbabwe in three ODIs followed by as many T20Is in January, to be played at the same venue, the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
