Sri Lankan cricket team departs for ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2023

The Under-19 (U19) Sri Lanka cricket team left for Dubai in the early hours of Wednesday (06 Dec.), for the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2023, hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

A group of 27 members including the players and officials left Sri Lanka this morning, with the 15-member squad being led by Sineth Jayawardena of Royal College, Colombo.

The U19 tournament is slated to get underway on Friday (08 Dec.), with the defending champions Indian taking on the 2017 champions Afghanistan in the opening match.

This will be the first international tournament that will see the presence of a Sri Lankan cricket team, following its suspension from the International Cricket Council (ICC) on 10 November, with immediate effect, pending the announcement on the conditions of the suspension.

Resultantly, Sri Lanka was also stripped of the opportunity to host the 15th edition of the ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup 2024 in January, with South Africa being named the new hosts.
