How to perform Lakshmi Puja on Diwali

People are eagerly waiting for Diwali throughout the whole year. As Hindu Calender, Diwali festival is also known as Hindu New Year. People start cleaning and decorate their house, they remove all the clutter from their house. Worship several gods during five days of Diwali festivals. To invite Lakshmi the Goddess of wealth to their home they perform Laxmi pooja for wealth and prosperity. It should be a daily ritual. However, it is an essential ritual to perform Laxmi Puja on the day of Diwali to seek her blessings. There are various hymns such as Sri Suktam and Laxmi Suktam which are designed by Indian sages for the worship of Goddess Lakshmi.

Some people also booked the Pandits for the Laxmi Puja and Vidhi. We will tell you some basic rituals and step by step instructions to perform Laxmi Pooja for her blessings. So, you can also do Laxmi puja very easily at home. The simplest ritual you can follow daily is to light an oil lamp in front of Goddess Lakshmi to invoke the grace of Maa Laxmi.

Things which are required for Laxmi Puja on Diwali:

  1. A chawki

  2. A red cloth

  3. Idol or photo of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi, and Goddess Saraswati.

  4. Akshat (uncooked full grain Rice)

  5. A puja thali

  6. Kalash

  7. Mango leaves

  8. Dhoop sticks

  9. Roli

  10. Scent

  11. Supari

  12. Panchamrita

  13. Coriander seeds

  14. Cotton seeds

  15. Lotus flower or lotus flower seeds

  16. Garland of Marigold flowers

  17. Sweets

  18. Silver Coin

  19. Dry whole turmeric

  20. Some currency notes.

Step by Step for How to do Lakshmi Puja on Diwali:

Step 1- Purify your House

First, clean your house properly, then purify your House by sprinkling Gangajal to purifying your surroundings.

Step 2- Set up the Platform

Place a chawki on the place of puja, then spread the red cloth on it.

Step 3 - Place the Kalash

Place the Kalash in the middle of the chawki. On the bed of rice. Fill Kalash with 75% of water in it, place a betel nut or supari, a coin, a flower, and some rice in it. Decorate it with mango leaves.

Step 4 - Bathe each Idol

Bathe each Idol with the Panchamrita (made with five ingredients – Sugar, honey, ghee, curd, and milk) then followed by water, and wipe with clean dry cloth.

Step 5 - Place the Idols

Place the Idols in front of the Kalash in south-west direction or on the right side of it.

Step 6 -  Light the diyas

Light a lamp to start puja. This lamp should be kept lit overnight.

Step 7 – Place books/ laptop/ wealth related items

You can also place your wealth and Business-Related Items or anything related to your work. Nowadays, people also place their laptop because businesses now have software related accounts.

Step 7 - Start Worship

Firstly, do puja of Lord Ganesha before any other God, to come and remove all obstacles during Lakshmi Puja. Put tilak of roli and Akshat on the forehead of Lord Ganesha. Then, offer scent, flowers, dhoop- deep, and sweets to Lord Ganesha.

 Step 8 - Start Laxmi Puja

Now, start worshipping Goddess Lakshmi. Put tilak of roli and rice on the forehead of Laxmi. Offer, flowers, dhoop, earthen lamps, scent, and sweets. Now offer cotton seeds, coriander seeds, supari, currency notes, dry whole turmeric, and lotus flower or lotus flower seeds to Goddess.

Step 9 - Worship all Deities

Now, pray to Lord Vishnu to come along with Goddess Lakshmi, pray to Lord Kuber for wealth, worship Lord Indra to give prosperity, do worship of Goddess Saraswati to get knowledge and guidance on life path, worship all deities followed by put tilak of rice and roli on their forehead, offer them flowers, scent, sweets, dhoop and earthen lamps for their blessings.

Step 10 – Worship of Elephants

Now, do worship of elephants of Goddess Lakshmi which are in photos. Offer them a pair of sugarcane.

Step 11 – Laxmi Arti

Do Lakshmi Arti after this Puja.
