Danteras is the first day of all the five days of Diwali festivals. Dhanteras is also known as Dhantrayodashi. On this day, Goddess Lakshmi came out along with Lord Kubera (who is the God of wealth) from the churning of the milky sea. Lord Kubera’s worshipped is performed on the auspicious day of Dhantrayodashi. However, Lakshmi Puja is performed after the 2 days of Trayodashi on Amavasya.

On Dhanteras, Lakshmi Puja should be performed during Pradosh Kaal. Pradosh Kaal Starts after sunset and lasts upto for 2 hours and 33 minutes. One should perform Lakshmi Puja on Dhantrayodashi is during Pradosh Kaal starts because at that time STHIR LAGNA prevails. Sthir Lagna means fixed. So, if you perform Dhanteras Puja on sthir lagna, Goddess Lakshmi will always stay in you home.

Dhanteras is also known as Dhanwantari, Triodasi or Dhanvantri jayanti which is also a birth aniversary of God Ayurveda. There is another ritual of Yamadeep on the same day of Trayodashi. On this day, people lighten lamps for the God of death outside home to wardoff any death of family members.
