How can I retrain as a personal trainer after the lockdown?

With lockdown easing across the country, one thing’s for certain, everything has changed. For many, this includes a change in work due to reduced hours or being made redundant.

If this has happened to you, or, if several months on furlough has made you crave a change in career, have you considered embarking on a Personal Trainer course?

Why become a personal trainer?

If you have a passion for fitness, you’re a people person and you’ve been looking for a career that offers you the chance to combine the two, where no day is the same, then becoming a Personal trainer could be for you.

And, it couldn’t be a better time to do it.

Not only will you have had the time to consider your options, but, the PMs new campaign against obesity, alongside almost a third of us gaining weight during the lockdown, fitness is fully in the spotlight. And, with gyms now re-opening, it won’t be long before people not only return to them, but newbies begin signing up to shift those extra pounds.

With this in mind, it’s important to remember that you need to have a passion for fitness before jumping headfirst into a personal training course. While you may love the gym, this is a job that’s very people focussed, and every client or potential client you encounter will be different, meaning you have to adapt to each person, rather than giving them all the same regimes.

If this is a challenge that sounds exciting to you and has only fuelled your fire, here at Focus Training, we make it as easy as possible for you to re-train, without causing too much disruption to your day-to-day life.

How to re-train as a personal trainer

Starting with our gym instructor course, which leads to a nationally accredited Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing, you’ll be fully equipped with both the skills and knowledge it takes to work with individuals in a gym.

With courses starting throughout the year, you can choose one that suits you, while part-time and full-time options are available, meaning you can continue working while training.

Providing you with a dedicated tutor from the beginning, who’ll pre-plan regular sessions with you and support you throughout your qualification, these people are experts in their field, due to being experienced fitness professionals themselves. Meanwhile, reaching them couldn’t be easier either, as you can contact them by phone, in person or via email or skype.

You can find out more about our personal trainer courses here.

Once you’ve completed this, you’ll be able to start your fitness career in gyms. It won’t stop there though, because, once this step is done, it’ll open up a whole world of other opportunities for you.

What’s next for a personal trainer?

An industry where continuous learning is hugely advantageous, you’ll soon be able to advance on to one of our other fitness courses.

From our personal trainer course, which can lead to a career either in a gym or self-employed working in and out of gyms.

While studying part-time or full-time on this course, you can continue your work in gyms, building up your experience while working up a rapport with gym-goers to help build a client base on the path to full-time self-employment, if this is what you’re looking to do.

However, this isn’t the end. You can then begin to add specialist aspects to your bow, helping you to provide a wealth of services to clients both old and new, such as sports massage and specific courses like lifting, kettlebells and even how to teach exercise to music.

Starting from the bottom and working your way up, at Focus Training we’ll be with you every step of the way as you gain qualifications, build your client base and start reaping the financial rewards you’ve always wanted.
