TOBY WALKER IN CONCERT

Venue: Cinema Arts Centre

423 Park Ave    Huntington, NY

Showtime: 7 pm - 10 pm

Roots music fingerstyle guitar virtuoso and songwriter Toby Walker will take the stage during the monthly Hard Luck Café series co-presented by the Folk Music Society of Huntington and the Cinema Arts Centre (423 Park Avenue, Huntington) in the Cinema’s Sky Room on Wednesday, June 21, from 7-10 p.m. An open mic, for which sign-up is at 6:30 p.m., precedes the concert. Tickets are $25 ($20 for Cinema Arts Centre/FMSH members) and can be purchased online at https://cinemaartscentre.org or at the box office now through the evening of the event.

A former Long Islander and longtime favorite of FMSH audiences, Toby Walker is an internationally touring artist who has earned acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic. His own musical style blends elements of blues, ragtime, country, bluegrass, old-time jazz, and rock. Walker is a past winner of the International Blues Challenge in Memphis and a New York Blues Hall of Fame inductee.

Walker is a nationally recognized guitar instructor who has taught at Jorma Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Ranch, Woody Mann’s Guitar Seminars, The Swanannoa Gathering, The New Jersey Big Guitar Camp, and the Guitar Intensive in Maine. He also has released eight instructional DVDs on Happy Traum’s Homespun Music Instruction label and has produced hundreds of instructional videos for his own website (littletobywalker.com).

Walker’s passion for blues, rags, folk, and other traditional American music drove him to leave an apartment crammed full of recordings, books and instruments for the Mississippi Delta, Virginia and the Carolinas, where he tracked down some of the more obscure – but immensely talented – music makers of an earlier era. He learned directly from Eugene Powell, James “Son” Thomas, Etta Baker, and R.L. Burnside, among others.
