HDTV-Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD – The Beginning Of A New Rivalry?

Now that we have more and more HD televisions, it has become a battle between HDTV-Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. This is similar to past battles like VHS vs. Beta in the 80s. The main similarity between the two is the wavelength at which they are played. In the past, CDs and DVDs used lasers with a length of around 650 nm, while the newer ones, HDTV-Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD, both used lasers with a length of 405 nm. Believe it or not, it makes a huge difference in quality and space.

Besides these basic information, the amount of information that can be stored on them is much better than in the past. Older DVDs or what are now called standard DVDs can hold around 4.7 GB of information. Because of this, they can hold around a two-hour movie with a few extras that will play well on regular TVs. Still, this won’t allow for great viewing on higher resolutions. But with HDTV-Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD, both can hold more.

Although both can store more and are therefore better for newer HDTVs, there is one main difference. In the battle between HDTV-Blu-Ray and HD-DVD, Blu-Ray may actually hold more information. HD-DVD can usually hold up to 30 GB, depending on the type of layers present on the disc. Whereas Blu-Ray can hold up to 50GB, again depending on the number of layers on the disc. However, this difference in space doesn’t mean much to the average viewer.

Another major difference between HDTV-Blu-Ray and HD-DVD is the cost of making them. HD-DVD seems to be cheaper to produce. This means that Blu-Ray costs more to manufacture and could increase its price for the consumer. It also means that HD-DVD is cheaper in terms of selling price. Although each won’t play on the other’s players, they can both play on older DVD players. At this point in the battle, it looks like HD-DVD will be better for home use, while Blu-Ray will perform better for movies and the like.

As you can see, there are a few things to consider when it comes to HDTV-Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD. But in both cases there are pros and cons. In the end, it’s really up to you to decide which one will work best for your personal needs. Based on the previous information, you should be able to make a better and more informed decision. Only time will tell which one will ultimately prevail.
