Bob the Tomato’s Identity Crisis (How to Protect Your Children)
Larry the cucumber and Bob the tomato have been longtime friends and colleagues for many years. Both are the stars of many children’s DVDs and Saturday morning television. The two work with VeggieTales, a popular children’s series featuring all sorts of goofy characters (in various vegetative states) who teach kids basic morals in a VERY humorous way.
About five years ago, Bob the Tomato got into a major identity crisis when someone (we don’t know who it was) suggested that Bob didn’t belong in VeggieTales. After all, Bob is no vegetable at all. He really is a fruit.
Now, not elevating yourself to vegetable status is degrading enough. However, it is yet another thing to be called a fruit. The word in this context has very negative connotations. All of the characters on the show are wacky, but “fruit” takes it to a whole new level.
Bob did his research and, admittedly, discovered to his disappointment that his family lines actually led to the fruit phylum. Bob went into a state of depression. Around the same time, VeggieTale’s first feature Jonah and the Whale failed to meet box office expectations and lost money. VeggieTales was on the verge of bankruptcy.
Once at the pinnacle of the plant world, Bob was now facing a major crossroads of crisis in his life. Recognizing that his longtime friend was in deep trouble, Larry the Cucumber decided to step in. He asked Bob to visit the famous vegetable psychiatrist, Dr. Archibald. It’s the same one Dr. Archibald Larry had seen earlier about a certain lip fetish.
Dr. Archibald quickly diagnosed Bob’s identity crisis and recommended a cure. He suggested that Bob get together with all his VeggieTales friends and create a CD and DVD of children’s music where the characters actually sing and talk to children BY NAME! This revolutionary BIG IDEA couldn’t have come at a better time for Bob.
By focusing on helping children with their own identity, Bob quickly learned to forget his own crisis. The new music CDs were such a hit that Bob encouraged others in the cartoon world to follow his lead. Before long, PERSONALIZED children’s CDs were available featuring The Wiggles, Elmo and Friends from Sesame Street, and Barney the Dinosaur. Even Mickey and Minnie Mouse understood the value of this incredible opportunity and together with their friend Goofy they too produced a personalized CD for children.
Raising awareness of a child’s identity is invaluable. It is especially important for little girls to be secure in who they are and who they are. The Disney Princesses have come to the rescue and produced a wonderful personalized CD for little girls, teaching them BY NAME wonderful princess things like manners and proper etiquette.
Bob the tomato and Larry the cucumber had the BIG IDEA. Their music is delightful and the impact on a child’s identity and sanity is priceless.
