Not more than twenty (20) Newly Recruited Teachers into the service of Oyo state Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has resigned in Ibarapa region of the state alone. According to a source within the teaching service, the teachers who are not up to a year in the service choose to voluntarily resigns their appointment due to what they called disappointment in their expectations. While about twelve of them who are of Ibadan origin have successfully transferred their appointment to Ibadan for them to be closer to their families. And to get more business doing during or after school hours.

Some of the teachers who our correspondents interviewed lamented that their salary is nothing to write home about, and they can not survive living under such small amount for the remaining thirty four years or more in service. Monthly deductions are not friendly at all.  One of the teachers who just resigned her appointment expressed more shocking disappointments…” If i continue like this, i don’t know how i will survive it for 35years. So much pressure to handle…family, working place, community engagements. I think the best thing i can do is to resign and find better options. I won’t even mind continue farming. At least, i will know what to get at the end of the year. People who used to give me financial supports before i got this job had stopped doing so, thinking that i have got a source of survival. How will a married person with a kid continue in this kind of situation”?.

A source within the commission however lamented further that if Ibarapa people fail to go and meet the state office in Ibadan to let them know what the region is facing here, they will continue suffering in silence for lack of adequate teachers. And this will no doubt affect the performances of students in the nearest future exams especially WAEC and NECO.
