Rihanna attacks Alabama GOP lawmakers, governor over new abortion law

Rihanna on Thursday joined a chorus of celebrities in denouncing Alabama's GOP lawmakers and Gov. Kay Ivey (R) who passed and signed into law controversial anti-Abortion legislation.
"Take a look. These are the idiots making decisions for Women in America," the Grammy award-winning singer wrote in an Instagram post along with an image of the legislators who voted in favor of the near-total abortion ban.
"Governor Kay Ivey...SHAME ON YOU!!!!" Rihanna added, referencing the state's GOP governor who signed the legislation into law late Wednesday.

Alabama's new abortion ban, which Ivey said is unenforceable, makes no exemptions for victims of rape and incest, and only adds an exception for when a mother's life is in danger. Under the new law, those who perform abortions would face sentences from 10 to 99 years, but the person receiving the abortion would not be punished.
A number of celebrities including singer John Legend and actress Kerry Washington who spoke out against the legislation this week.

"This is awful. Outrageous. Unconstitutional," Washington wrote on Twitter.
"These statehouses are waging all-out war on women and their right to control their reproductive decisions. This is awful," Legend tweeted.
Celebrities have also condemned similar bills in other states, such as Georgia, that aim to outlaw abortion around six weeks into pregnancy, before most women know they're pregnant.
Actor Jason Bateman vowed to refuse to work in Georgia if the "heartbeat" abortion legislation becomes law. Several other actors and activists have spoken out against the Georgia law, including Alyssa Milano who shared a letter in March signed by 50 actors saying they would boycott the state if the abortion policy became law.
