Chimera refers to a single organism consisting of two or more organisms i.e. they have two sets of DNAs. If you have seen Teen Wolf, you will get the reference that Jackson (played by Colton Haynes) was a Chimera. Okay, maybe that reference doesn’t exactly fit but let’s move on. 

Humans can become a chimera through a bone-marrow transplant. It is not common in us but really common in cats.

Basepaws

Chimera cats possess various tissues derived from different genomes. The  tortoiseshell coat in the male cats tells you that they have an extra X chromosome. Females already have two X chromosomes so there isn’t any such relation between their chimera nature and coat coloration.

Did you know the most famous feline animal is a two – faced cat named Venus? Venus is a magnificent black and green eyed cat with orange stripes.

Narnia is another chimera cat, he is absolutely unique and so cute!

You can’t really get chimera cats from a distinct place as the origin or project isn’t known. Chimera cats are nevertheless magnificent, priceless and rare. Also, don’t try breeding chimeras by the ‘traditional’ method as it isn’t something you can force to happen. The magic happens in the embryo during the merge. It has one dominant set of DNA with hints of the second Dna merged with it. 

Please note that a DNA test is the only way of assurance that the cat is a chimera because coloration and other variation don’t mark that distinction.

Caretaking

Wash chimars with mild shampoos and keep them clean and combed. Keep them indoors and provide them with a balanced diet and exercises. This will protect them from outdoor diseases as well.

This lovely and curious cat seems to really enjoy all the benefits of a typical cat lifestyle, sprawling on laps, and also rolling on her fluffy pillows. Chimeras are amazing creatures.
