Many Young midfielders from around the world are showing signs that they will soon conquer their sport. Identifying potential “wonder kids” in Football is quite interesting for football fans all around the world. The young footballers who play with leading football clubs and national teams are making unexpected improvements in their level and have gained a significant position in their career.

We have listed out 10 young midfielders representing 10 countries that have already created impressive history in international football.

Kai Havertz

This 20-year-old German player, Kai Havertz is set to make his mark in the world football arena. He is a technically-gifted and highly balanced attacking two-footed midfielder, with excellent vision and passing and ball control skills with foot and with his head. He made his Debut for Bayer Leverkusen in 2016 becoming the youngest debut player of the club in the Bundesliga. In 2017, he became the youngest goal scorer of the club by scoring his first goal. Havertz is also the youngest player to accomplish 50 and 100 league appearances in the German top-flight. In the first round of European Under-19 Championship qualifying match on October 4, 2017, which was his third appearance for the under-19 team, Havertz scored four goals in a 5–1 win against Belarus.

Kylian Mbappé

This 21-year-old French player is considered as one of the most promising young talents in international football today for his finishing, dribbling, speed, technical skill, and fearlessness on the ball. He is already established as a world-class player with his impressive goal in the 2018 World Cup Final. Mbappe made his way into Ligue 1 tyrants Paris Saint-Germain for £130.5 million following a successful loan spell in 2017-2018. He played in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, thus becoming the youngest French player to score at a World Cup, and the second teenager, after Pelé, to score in a World Cup Final.

Ansu Fati

This 17-years-old Spanish player, of Bissau-Guinean origin, has made his way into FC Barcelona first team after scoring four goals and three assists in six UEFA Youth League matches. He was given Spanish citizenship in September 2019 after renouncing his Bissau-Guinean citizenship. On 11 October 2019, he was selected in the Spanish under-21 team, after Carles Pérez sustained an injury and he made his debut on 15 October 2019 against Montenegro. In his 18th game for Barça, Fati scored three goals and one assist. In the Champions League group game against Inter Milan, he came on with five minutes to go to score the winner and secured a 2-1 win. He is one of the most demanded young players in the FIFA 20’s Career Mode and the only player to start off the game at the age of 16 and achieve a massive potential rating of 90.

Lautaro Martínez

This 22 year old Argentinian player has played in the Racing Club from 2015 to 2018 and has been signed by Inter Milan in 2018 for £22.5 million. He was selected in the Argentina senior team in 2018 and made his debut against Spain on 27 March, as a substitute for Gonzalo Higuaín in a 6–1 defeat. He played in the senior team in the 2019 Copa América and was instrumental in his team finishing at the third place. Martinez was a trusted first-team striker in his second season with the San Siro co-residents and has scored 15 goals and three assists by his 25th game of the season. He is considered as Argentina’s best wonderkid in FIFA 20, with an overall rating of 82 from the start of Career Mode.

David Neres

The 23-years-old left-footed Brazilian wonder kid, who plays as a forward for Dutch club Ajax and the Brazil national team, quickly achieved his 86 POT rating. He can play his peak level as a left-winger (LW), right-winger (RW) or centre attack midfielder (CAM). He entered the senior team of Brazil national football on 8 March 2019, after getting selected by coach Tite and replacing an injured Vinícius Júnior. His debut in the senior team was the friendly match against the Czech Republic on 26 March 2019, in the 63rd minute as a replacement for Richarlison. He scored an assist and produced a backheel leading to a goal, contributing to a 3–1 win against the Czech Republic. Neres is considered as an exciting player in the FIFA 20 career mode.

Ademola Lookman

The 22-year-old diminutive and tricky English winger plays for German club RB Leipzig. He has played in the England under-21 team. Lookman has been playing Sunday League football for Charlton Athletic since 2015 through which he made an impressive rise and scored on his Premier League debut with Everton in January 2017 against Manchester City. He joined RB Leipzig in 2018 and scored the winning goal in the last minute of his debut game with Leipzig against Borussia Mönchengladbach after coming on as a late substitute. He played in the England under-20 team for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup and scored three goals in the tournament.

Gianluigi Donnarumma

The 21-year-old Italian goalkeeper is considered as AC Milan’s first-class goalie. He established himself as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in the world and even got an invitation to join Juventus from AC Milan following legend Gianluigi Buffon considering his talent. He has been a centrepiece of the club in the trialling times, keeping 66 clean sheets through 183 games for the former Serie A giants. He made his senior international debut in the Italy national team at the age of 17, becoming the youngest goalkeeper for Italy. He was the starting goalkeeper for Italy’s under-17 team at the 2015 UEFA European Under-17 Championship. In his U-21 debut at the age of 17 in 2016, the team had a 4–1 win over the Republic of Ireland, and he became the youngest player ever to play for the team, breaking the previous record by Federico Bonazzoli. He is certainly worth the price as he was one of the best goalkeepers in FIFA 20 – boasting a potential overall rating of 92.

Ante Palaversa

The 20-year-old Croatian midfielder, who played for Manchester City, is currently spending the season at Belgian club KV Oostende on loan. He is expected to make a big impression on international football. Palaversa who has already made five appearances with Manchester City is looking forward to establishing himself as a first choice regular and to make his way back into Manchester City. He is a feast to watch during the match with his strong short passing (76), long passing (79) and great defensive attributes.

Yari Verschaeren

The 17-year-old Belgian attacking midfielder, who plays for RSC Anderlecht, is considered as an outstanding prospect in Belgian football. Verschaeren possesses 3-star skill moves and weak foot while his best attributes are his fribbling (77), ball control (78), agility (87) and balance (86). He made his debut in Belgian national team on 9 September 2019 as a late substitute against Scotland in a Euro 2020 qualifier. In the same year, he scored his first goal for Belgium in the UEFA Euro 2020 qualification from a penalty in 9–0 win against San Marino. He has an overall rating of 72 which can rise to 87 with the right training and exposure to first-team football.

Dostonbek Khamdamov

This 23-year-old Uzbekistani footballer currently plays Pakhtakor Tashkent as a right or left-winger. The technically skilled midfielder started with the Bunyodkor, helping the Uzbek Professional Football League win two successive Uzbekistan Cup finals and later played in by Russian Premier League club Anzhi Makhachkala. He is acclaimed as a speedy trickster who is efficient at left-wing and has played in the overall attacking frontline, which can grab attention from potential suitors. He scored three goals at the 2015 U20 FIFA World Cup, including a vital brace against Austria in the round of 16. He became Asia’s Young Footballer of the Year in 2015, which was previously won by Shinji Ono. The award doesn’t necessarily guarantee him a bright future in the game, however, he can be confident about his future in the sport.
