Which Human Food Is Safe For Your Dog?

We often tend to share Food off of our plates with our dogs. But, is all food safe for them? No!

Some Human Food is ok for dogs and is also nutritious for them, while others can make them sick. You need to be careful when you share food with them.

If you love sharing your food with your dog, here’s a list of human food that is safe for them to eat.

Grains & Bread

Grains and bread are a staple diet for most humans and it is safe for dogs as well. You can share your multigrain bread with your dog, but make sure it does not have herbs and spices. Home-baked bread is better than a store-bought one. The nutritional value of bread is the same for dogs as for humans. Bread is all carbs and calories though, so just keep the quantity low.

Eggs

Eggs are totally safe for your dog and are healthy food. It is a great source of protein.

Cooked eggs can also help an upset stomach. But make sure the egg is completely cooked. Raw or half-cooked eggs can cause biotin deficiency.

Fish & Seafood

Fish is healthy both for you and your dog. It contains healthy fats and amino acids. Sardines and salmons are good for them. You can feed them sardines without having to remove the bones as they have really soft bones. Make sure the fish is cooked properly. Undercooked fish may cause indigestion.

You can feed your dog tuna in moderate quantity. You can also give shrimp, but it should be cooked properly and the shells and tails should be removed. Shrimp contains vitamin B12 and is low in calories. Don’t add any oil of garlic to your fish when cooking for your dog.

Milk & Cheese

Milk and cheese both are safe for your dog. Some dogs do have lactose intolerance though, so be cautious. You can go for low-fat cheese like mozzarella or cottage cheese. Also, no ice creams as they are high in sugar and not good for your canine friend.

Meat

Dogs can eat all types of meat. You can feed them chicken, turkey, pork or beef, but ensure that you cook the meat properly. And no seasoned meat for your dog. Remove the chicken bones because some bones are small and can be a choking hazard for your dog. Dogs can eat ham also, but in a very controlled way, as ham is high in fat and sodium and is not a very healthy option. Meat is important for dogs as it is an excellent source of protein and contains important minerals and vitamins.

Fruits & Vegetables

Dogs are mainly carnivorous and it is ok if they are not fed any fruits. Dogs can eat most of the fruits like apple, banana, watermelon, pineapple, oranges, peaches, pears and mangoes. They can also eat all berries like strawberries, cranberries, raspberries, and strawberries. Whenever you are feeding any fruits to your dog make sure you remove the skin and seeds. When it comes to vegetables you can feed your dog Brussel sprouts, peas, carrots, celery, cucumbers, green beans, broccoli, and spinach. Don’t give your dogs onions, tomatoes, cherries, and asparagus. It is important to completely avoid onions as they cause red blood cells to rupture and may cause diarrhea, vomiting, and indigestion!

Nuts

Not all nuts are safe for your dogs. While you can give them cashew and peanuts, you cannot feed your dog almonds, walnuts and macadamia nuts. When feeding your dogs nuts, be careful and ensure they chew properly as they might choke on them. Almonds are especially tricky and may also damage the esophagus if not chewed properly.

While most human food is ok for dogs, always watch out for any kind of allergies and reactions whenever you introduce something new.
