7 Things That You Don’t Need Anymore Thanks to Technology

Technology has definitely made our life easier. But, how many times have we really realized how much it has actually changed our lives? There are things that have become obsolete today or are about to become obsolete. There are also a Number of things that we don’t do anymore which were previously a part of our daily life. Here are  7 things that we are happy we don’t have to do anymore.

  1. 1 Use Road Maps

Have you ever used a printed atlas road map in the US or in any part of the world for that matter? Probably not. Using maps is the top on our list. Thanks to Google maps, satellites, GPS, etc. we do not need those big printed maps. We can easily find our way around any country through the maps. If you are a tourist in a country, you no more have to ask people for directions or worry about getting lost in a city.

  2. 2 Memorize Phone Numbers

We don’t need to memorize Phone numbers anymore, nor do you have to write the number of a person on cocktail napkins. You can simply store them on your phone. Previously people memorized the important phone numbers or wrote them down in a diary or directory. But now you have more than a hundred numbers stored on your phone and don’t have to reach for a diary to dial a number. What’s more, you don’t have to press all those buttons to make a call. All you need to do is click on the person’s name in your phone and voilà the call is through.

  3. 3 Look through the Phone Book to find services

The biggest boon is finding all services at the click of a button. Just Google and you can find the nearest plumber, carpenter or any medical service without having to go through that huge phone book. Nor do you have to buy the phonebook every year for the new numbers that are added to the directory. Not just that, there are specific directories for specific services as well.

  4. 4 Use a Floppy Disc

Most of you probably have seen a floppy disc. When computers were new, people used floppy discs to save and share data. You’ve seen the save sign on Microsoft Office applications? It resembles a floppy disc. Be it school projects or company presentation we saved it all on floppy discs and carried them around. Thankfully we don’t need to do that anymore. You can save all your data on a pen drive and carry it easily with you. Also, there are few chances of the work getting corrupted.

  5. 5 Use Typewriters

There was a time when all the offices had typewriters and a secretary to operate it. Every print document was first inserted into the typewriter, and then the document was typed on it. This needed very careful work as if you made a mistake you had to throw the entire sheet and start again. Fortunately, typewriters are not used in offices anymore and you have the facility of typing on a computer/ laptop. So you don’t have to worry if you’ve made a mistake, you can always delete and write again.

  6. 6 Carry a Walkman

Walkman was one of the coolest gadgets that a teenager could own in the ’80s and ’90s. it influenced the culture a lot in those times. People everywhere started using a Walkman especially during exercise and when going for a walk. It was followed by Sony’s Discman, which had a portable CD player. It was the predecessor of the digital audio players like the iPod. But, it required you to carry a bunch of cassettes or CD’s along with you if you wanted to travel and have your music with you. Now all you need is your phone.

  7. 7 Use the TV guide

The TV guide was one of the most sought-after magazines at one time. People needed them to know which shows are on at what time. Look through it to find your favorite show. Our routine and schedule were mostly based on the TV guide. But now we have access to shows whenever we want. We can watch movies whenever we want we can even read books with the click of a button. You no longer have to go to the bookstore to purchase a book or rent a movie. Everything is available at the click of a button.
