How Pet-Friendly Is Your House?

For most of us, Pets are on the same level as the human members of our family. But, is your home pet firendly? Your home needs to create a safe and healthy environment for your pet and you. Your pooch or cat should be able to move around without creating a mess and getting hurt. Implement these simple steps that make your House pet friendly.

Childproof Latches

Cats and dogs have a curious nature. They like to snoop around the house. Use childproof latches to secure your cupboards and kitchen and bathroom doors. This will keep them away from harmful chemicals and food items. This will also keep them from making a mess. It is always better to keep the bathroom locked. Some dogs also have the habit of drinking from the toilet bowl which is not healthy.

Flooring Matters

The harder the floor the easier it is to maintain. Pets may spoil the carpet and hence it is better to just have normal flooring. Tiles are the best option as they are hard and scratch proof. They are also easy to clean and stay cool in the hot summer.

Look for High Ground

Keep precious items out of reach. Keep them enclosed in a cupboard or on a higher place where the pets can’t reach. They will jump around the house and things that are within their reach will fall and break. They can also hurt themselves by this. Make sure toxic items are out of reach.

Cables and Spaces

Pets often get stuck in dangerous places like behind electrical equipment. They also tend to get entangled in cables. This can be dangerous. Create blockades wherever the pets can get in and get stuck. Tie up the cables and cover them so that they don’t get entangled in them. Cover electrical switches as well.

Indoor Plants

Some indoor plants can cause harm to your pets. Place such plants in balconies or other places which can be locked out. Check the toxic and non toxic nature of the plant before bringing them home.

Vacuum Cleaner

Invest in a good vacuum cleaner. You will have pet hair and dirty paw marks to clean all over the house. Every once in a while your pet may also break something. Your vacuum cleaner should be sturdy enough for such times and easy to clean with as well.

Create a Space

Create a small space for your pet. Get a cozy pet bed and set up a corner for them. If you have a pet dog, then get some chewable toys for it or an object to scratch if you have a cat. They will then know that this is their place to relax and take a nap.
