Biography & Biodata
Anupam Kher (born March 7, 1955) is an Indian actor and current president of the Film and Television Institute of India. He has appeared in more than 500 films in multiple languages and many plays. He has also appeared in international films such as Golden Globe nominated Bend It Like Beckham in 2002, Lust, Caution, of Los Angeles in 2007, and Silver Linings Playbook, Oscar winner of David O. Russell in 2013. Kher won the Filmfare Award for best performance five times in a comic role. For his performance in the 1988 film Vijay, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.
He has served as President of the Central Council for Film Certification and the National Theater School in India. He is currently the president of Actor Prepares. The Indian government honored him with Padma Shri in 2004 and Padma Bhushan in 2016 for his contribution in the field of cinema and the arts.
His wife, actress Kirron Kher, is a member of the Indian Parliament of Chandigarh
Early life
Kher was born on March 7, 1955 in Shimla, in a Pandit family of Kashmir.His father was an employee and he had a modest education. He received an education at D.A.V. School in Shimla. In his tough days as an actor in Mumbai, he slept on railway platforms. He is a former and former president of the National Theater School. Some of his leading roles were in plays performed at the University of Himachal Pradesh.
Career

Kher wrote and performed in a play about his own life called Kucch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai, which was directed by Feroz Abbas Khan.
Until recently, he was president of the Indian Film Censor Board. He is a former student of the National Theater School (1978) and was its director between 2001 and 2004.
In 2007, Anupam Kher, along with his NSD colleague Satish Kaushik, created a film production company, Karol Bagh Productions. Their first film, Tere Sang, was directed by Satish Kaushik.
He was named in 2010 Goodwill Ambassador of the Pratham Education Foundation, which strives to improve the education of children in India.
In 2011, he played alongside Mohanlal and Jayaprada in the romantic Malayalam Pranayam drama. Kher chose Pranayam as one of the seven best films of his career.
